Spectrum Five news

Here is the link to the petition. It is very interesting to read. Spectrum Five pleads poverty (global financial difficulties) and technological challenges. In other words, construction hasn't even begun on sat #1 or sat #2.

Gee. Isn't it a requirement that they have the money to do what they state they intend to do, to get the licenses in the first place? Why is the government letting this travesty go on? Afraid of offending the Dutch? Do the Dutch stand to make some money if this vaporsat every comes into existence?

PS- nothing like resurrecting the dead. But I'm glad you did. I want to hear everything that goes on regarding this matter, including the last shovelful of dirt going into the S5 grave.

Spectrum Five has replied to FCC request for constuction status of their licensed DBS satellite

Response

Heavily redacted but looks like work stopped shortly after critical design review was completed (August 2008).

This is the license Spectrum Five has been using to attempt to restrict the power levels of the newer Dish/Echostar satellites at 110 and 119. If it(they) ever launch, Dish/Echostar will have to reduce power on the newer satellites to avoid interference.

This is a fine example of why our government is going broke.
The FCC staff has spend a huge amount of time processing this license and replying to the various parties involved.

It will be interesting to see if Spectrum Five has the political suck to continue bleeding time and money from the FCC budget for something that will probably never be launched.

They had powerful friends in the Bush Administration (it has been suggested that they never should have been granted status to begin with), and now that they are in the pipeline, and it probably isn't that easy for the new administration (FCC) to get them kicked out due to their rights for appeals, legal actions, etc. It seems everyone in the world knew this was never going to take off.

I think that this time the FCC will stick it to them. Had construction actually begun and then suspended, the FCC may have given S5 more time to complete the sats. Since construction of the two sats did not begin, S5 is in violation of the conditions of their license and needs to be slapped down.
