No word on when the channels will be moved to 110. I am hoping SOON I miss my HBO HD!

Scott, disconnect the 105 sat lnb and reconnect your 61.5 sat.

I agree, Dish doesn't do anything fast and they might change there mind.
Put your 61.5 dish 300 back up Scott.
Where is the HD PPV channels at 61.5 or 148?

HD on 110 (bet they ramp up to 3 channels/transponder)

That's what has me worried. Dish has had great HD picture quality. I'd hate to see that screwed up.

How much new HD exactly is going to be on 110?

First relocate

SHO, HBO, PPV, and HD Events
Maybe CBSs, & Demo

Then add?

What? Cinemax-HD, Starz ?

Thats a lot of bandwidth considering locals and all.

BTW: Boise and Madison are showing up on 121. Must be happening.

Standing by for a load of crap :)

peter- Sorry you won't be making it this year. Haven't heard from the Doc lately but Id bet he'll call me on the cell phone the day I arrive in LV. :D

Anyway- I'll be on that stuff, especially about the firewire. As for SD, that will be dormant for me for a few months as long as they get this new plan to work.

I never expected this. So is Charlie going to moving existing locals from 110 to 105? If so then it is going to backfire like he has never seen or imagined. People will switch providers if they all of a sudden have to have some large dish about twice the size than they had to have before and will be asking questions.

If that is not the case then I think this is what is going on here. I think Dish Network realized that there is not enough HD content and will not be for a while so he decided to put all the content on 110, and that gives him time to free up more space or for more compression enhances to come in the future for some space at 110 and maybe compress the channels they already have up there on both 110 and 119 just a little more to make room, and the combination of both could net them 20-30% more room or better to add these channels. I would also expect some channels to possibly being moved around from 110 to 119 to make more room on 110 and possibly having some channels moved to the wing slots (61.5/148).

I would not expect 50 HD channels to all come up all at once or for there to be 50 HD channels to come out soon. Perhaps when the new satellite gets launched to 105 next year he will launch some additional HD content there and if someone wants additional HD content they will have to get a SuperDish.

Remember what I said about Dish not wanting to launch all the HD channels at the same time as locals because they would be swamped swapping people from Dish300 and Dish500 to SuperDish? With HD going to be 110 (at least for the time being) it will allow for more concentration for getting SuperDish upgrades done for those wanting locals and getting new subscribers in those areas where locals are available with the SuperDish while requring fewer SuperDishes.

Also this would allow more room for locals at 105 and 121. Dish must be planning on launching the cities to all 210 markets and get going with this before DirecTv gets their satellites launched. They want to gain as many subs until that time because they know once they do, then they wont has as many advantages to DirecTv where they did not have locals available in those markets.

I also think if Dish is willing to have all of HD at 110 and keep it there then they have realized that they have to get started on rolling out more HD and make it more mainstream as it is the wave of the future. They could also have some enhanced channels instead of all of them being HD if that saves bandwidth. This could be the start of the conversion of analog to digital and Dish has decided to start now.

Yeah, I haven't talked with him in ages, but I know when not to take a sucker bet. :)

I was going to try a "poor man's SD" but I've decided to wait. D500 + 148 gets me everything I want right now except WCBS-DT, so I'm hoping they move that to 110. This gets me out of the quandry of changing out any legacy gear before SW44+...

Doesn't seem to me they will add many more HD channels, how will they generate room at 110?

Do you mean Duluth, MN? If so, I will s**t a brick because I use to live in Duluth and just moved to Minneapolis and I so want the Duluth stations.

If this is true......."Hello Dish? I need to switch my service address"

Wow, E* actually decided to do the smart thing by placing most new locals on 105 and 121 and HDTV on 110, at least for the short term. If E* still plans on doing 50 HDTV channels in the future their will have to be another solution, their is not room on 110 for that. In the short term all the channels included in the HD Pack are currently on 110 and their is likely room for HBO-HDTV and SHO-HDTV on 110 now with some shuffling. The only new HDTV channels that are available now or the near future are Starz-HD, TMC-HD, Cinamax-HD, Bravo-HD and possibly IN-HD and IN-HD2 for a total of 8 additional HDTV channels, E* will need to clear about 4 TP's on 110 to do this with 2 HD channels per TP. E* may have to compress SD channels a little more and possibly like D* do some compresion on HD channels too and move all remaining non Big 4 Network local's to spotbeams that are currently on 110 conus. It also appears that all International channels will remain on the wings. We may not see any additional SD channels added for quite some time exept the ones that have already ben announced.

Well in theory they can do 3 channels/transponder on 110 without having to ruin the picture quality. They just have to lower the error correction. While this might increase rain fade some on the HD, they have the error rate the same on 110 as they have on the wings that run with 1/2 the power of 110. They would be able to sustain 16.43Mbit/sec on all 3 channels simultaniously. But, it would be unlikely that all three would peak at the same time since 1920x1080 runs around 12Mbit/sec on average.
