Space Shuttle Endeavour STS-127 Launch

Space shuttle Endeavour has reached orbit!

thought I saw several debris clusters flutter past during the external tank view prior to separation.
Those just before the tank separation are usually of no concern at all. The air is too thin by then.
However, there were some other events at a much earlier stage that they are looking into. May not be a big deal, but they will have a closer look.

Today, NASA grounded the fleet until they can figure out how to resolve the tank shedding issue. I don't find that to be a realistic approach...
NASA doesn't use the term "grounded fleet". This is a misleading term invented by journalists.
First of all, one third of the Shuttle fleet is off the ground at the moment - hardly grounded.
Second, all shuttles are always "grounded" until fully cleared for launch.
Whether the August flight will be delayed, remains to be seen, but NASA does have a new puzzle on their hands: the debris came off the tank in an unexpected place. Not a big concern for this flight, but something they would want to understand before the next flight.
If this does cause significant delays with the upcoming flights, then NASA may face a huge mess with their Shuttle retirment schedule.
Welcome aboard, new NASA Administrator! :)

Greg Dobbs to stop talking?? No way!!! ;)

It's funny how he reports Shuttle launches, as if his main audience consists of people who have never watched or even heard of Shuttle launches before! :D

Plus, HDNet is several seconds behind... ;)
I usually watch shuttle launces on NASA TV, but sometimes dvr the HDNet coverage as well.
Some of those launches look so spectacular in HD!

At the briefing last night they blamed the noise on the microphone: improperly positioned or something like that. The air flow within the helmet caused the noise.

No serious problems with the tiles on the orbiter: NASA has even waived the focused inspection.

As for the hour-long NASA TV outage, I don't know what caused it, but looks like it was a problem on the ground. Unrelated to the spacewalk activities.
