Yesterday Sony creative software finally released the much anticipated 3D upgrades to it's video editing package. This is very exciting because it adds full blue ray quality to 3D rendering and blue ray burning. It also allows the full MVC files from various Full HD 3D Sony camcorders to be loaded into the timeline. The upgrade is free to all registered Vegas v 10 owners.

Sony Vegas Pro v 10 supports 3D editing and allows for 3D output but not Full HD until now. The sidekick application DVD Architecture v 5.2 has not been upgraded and while it supports full HD blue Ray burning, it does not support 3D authoring.

On the negative side of this news, those who couldn't wait for Sony's HDR TD10 3D camcorder and purchased the JVC, you will not be able to take advantage of this release because the proprietary file structure in the JVC is not compatible. If you try, the file will cause the Vegas editor to crash. Consequently, JVC 3D camcorders are still without an editing platform, nor a way to burn a 3D Blue Ray. The camcorder shoots excellent video in 3D but all you can do is look at it or down res it to a regular 3D video at half resolution and play on You Tube.

Personally, all I can shoot right now is half resolution 3D with my bloggie 3D but expect to soon have the Sony HDR TD10 as Sony has started to ship in limited quantities. I have two of these on backorder.

Here is my latest 3D video shot with the new Sony HDR TD10 hand held and assembled in Vegas 10.d.

Vegas can take the Full 3D HD files in MVC and edit directly with them, then render to 1080 24p x 1920 at 25Mbit data rate and burn it to a BD-R. The PQ is as good as anything you'll see sold commercially.
