Ok, here's a new one: with Sony's announcements today they've issued a titled "Next-generation Console Comparison Fact Sheet," (downloadable here [DOC]) so let's see some facts. First up, were you aware that to use your Xbox 360 Core system you're required to buy the 20GB drive add-on, an HD DVD drive, a wireless controller, and an Xbox Live sub? We weren't either. But hey, it says right there, "requires users to buy" and this is, in fact, a "fact sheet." Of course, none of that's actually true, and what's more, were one to use the Xbox 360 Premium console pack in that chart instead of the Core pack, the total would be $399 for a console with that very same hard drive, wireless controller, and Xbox Live Silver subscription (which provides access to everything but multiplayer) -- remember, kids, an HD DVD drive is not required to do anything but watch high def movies -- it has nothing to do with high def gaming. We hear Microsoft ain't too happy about this chart either and is preparing certain legal action, namely because it could be misleading to otherwise unwitting retail employees selling customers game consoles this holiday season. Go figure.

P.S. -In the interest of fairness, it's also worth pointing out the Wii browser is what will cost you after the first 6 months -- not their online service. What's more, if you download the browser before June of 2007, it's straight up free. Otherwise, Nintendo hasn't yet announced details of the cost of their online service so far as we know. Another nice one, Sony.

P.P.S. -We just confirmed with Microsoft that another Sony claim -- that you need a memory unit or a hard drive to use the WiFi adapter -- is also false. You can grab a Core pack with no memory card and plug in a WiFi adapter and get on your home network. Sheez Sony, did we mention we moonlight as fact checkers?

Well in order to do the same things with that model, as one can do with a PS3 then YES you MUST BUY THOSE ITEMS for the 360. No where in that document does it state that in order to use the 360 you have to buy those things. Only the dimwitted of this world would bother to think that from looking at it.

It is simply saying that, for the 360 to be considered in any league with the PS3, one must purchase those add ons. And it's the truth. The core system is OUT OF THE PS3's league. Hands down. Now for the premium 360, that may be slightly questionable. Add 250 to 400 and you've got what charlie, 650, which is still more than the PS3.

What's that I hear coming from the distance? You don't need HDDVD or Live. Well, if you want to compare it to the PS3 powerhouse you do. Nuff said!!

What a truckload of BS. Yes, Sony states "REQUIRES USERS TO BUY" - which part you couldn't grasp of this fairly simple English sentence?

It is a outright lie, put out by Sony.

Rest of this comment like "to be considered in any league with the PS3" and such idiotic stuff belongs to stupid fanboy domains, I don't care.:p

Priceless. :D

Nuff said!!

NOW I fully agree with you on this...
:D

Ok I DO NOT have any idea how you cannot undertand this. It is a farily simple concept and even the dumest at the english language should be able to grasp it. In order for the 360 to be remotely compared to the PS3 those things would be required. In case you didn't notice sony issued a press release to let those of you who couldn't quite grasp this simple concept.

I am who in their right mind would look at that and say, "Ohh in order to play my video games I have to buy so and so." The idiiot that thinks that should be shot. They just don't deserve to be on this earth. It is quite clear that this is a comparision between consoles. And as it states up top "CONSOLE PRICE COMPARISON." AND, in order to compare the two systems FAIRLY, you do have to buy those add ons for the 360.

actually HP, its for those parents, grandparents whoever who are going to the store, and saying, well My Son wanted a video game system, and looking at that chart and going- wait in order for it to work, I have to buy all the stuff, but if I just get one box on the Ps3, my son will be able to play a video game, I will take the Ps3. They are confused as it is, and Sony does this stuff to help confuse them a little more.....even I know that, you are looking at it trying to defend sony, when really you need to look at it from the business side, and see their deceptive practice....I see where you are coming from, and that is you are falling hook line and sinker for the cookie crumbs that lead to their house of lies.

They are losing the PR battle so they have to fight to use Jedi Mind Tricks on the weak minded consumers.....

Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't....

Sony forgot to add component cables/HDMI to their own list. Unless they expect people to only use the bundled composite cables to watch True HD:p

Sony clarifies their misleading "Fact Sheet
Following the tremendous heat that Sony’s next-generation comparison fact sheet generated, the company has decided to issue a statement. Dave Karraker, Senior Director of Corporate Communications of SCEA informed TeamXbox:

"Through our comparison chart we are not implying that you must purchase the myriad of peripherals and add-ons that Microsoft offers to play your Xbox 360. You don't. However, if you want to attempt to come close to the performance of the $499 PlayStation 3 by using your Xbox 360, Core or Premium, you could only do that through expensive add-ons -- that is what our chart is demonstrating. Once you add it all up, it would cost you more than our $499 unit, and you would still not come close to everything we offer, ie: free multiplayer gaming, 50GB storage capacity of Blu-ray disc, Blu-ray disc player for games AND movies, processing power of the Cell Broadband Engine."

Oh shut up, you f**kin' lying PoS Karraker - once again Sony has just been caught lying - you have no credibility, loser.
