Sony 4K Blu-ray Ready to Play

Uh, note that it is 4k upscaling, but only plays 1080P discs. Of course, there are no 4k discs yet either.

Personally, I don't think I am going to get a lot of value by going 4k, even in the theater. 120" screen at 11' feels about right in terms of field of view and that is just about the distance for 1080P perception. I can't imagine moving in closer, but I will wait for real content and see.

The 4K I saw was AMAZING. Everything looked REAL not like you were watching TV.

I was a 4K doubter before I saw it in person but after seeing the demos I was very impressed.

I think it was CES2008 where they had technology previews (both Sony and JVC). And it is phenomenal...

Caveat -- You have to sit closer to get all the detail of 4K presentations. If you sit farther back than X (don't have the data in front of me) you can't see all the detail of the resolution.

The Hobbit is supposed to be showing with 4K @ 48 Frames in some venues. That will be something to behold. Shot on Red One cameras.
