I noticed scanning today with my receiver that sometimes when you add a new transponder to the satellite and then scan the motor will command the satellite elsewhere when you start scanning after it is already at the right spot. This obviously causes the satellite to not catch anything. I am wondering if this is some kind of a glitch in the software or if there is another setting somewhere that I need to adjust.

you need to make sure you have an active transponder selected and a lock on an active transponder on the selected satellite before you start the scan.....

I've never had that problem in the year and a half that I've had mine, however I did have something similar happen when I last reset my SV360 to factory default after moving the dish. The only way I could get it to stop was by overwriting the firmware with the factory file again.

Another thought: Once you have fine tuned the quality of an existing transponder using the motor, are you saving the position in the motor menu before you add transponders to that satellite? If not it is possible it is going to the last saved position.

Does it make a difference if I save the position in the USALS menu or the Motor menu? Also, what is the reference point when it shows the command, "go to reference"?

if you are using USALS you do not need to save the position....you only need to save the position if you are fine tuning the motor manually using your remote control....when setting up a satellite put all the settings in FIRST before you worry about the motor positioning....LNB type, LNB freq, switch port etc etc....then select an ACTIVE transponder....

after that is all done go into the motor options and select USALS you might need to hit another button now that says "go to sat position"....see if the quality comes up after the motor stops moving....or if your manually tuning with remote go east and west to find the best quality possible then save the postion.....exit and start your blind scan.....

"go to reference" normally means the motor will go to its default "0" position which would be at the top of the arc pointing south....

Ya I was trying to find the 83w satellite which is not listed on my receiver so I wasn't sure how to save the positions on a new satellite. I also don't know if you can modify the factory satellite IE: 84w brazil to take a different USALS position or if it always reverts to the normal setting whereas there is an option for motor that allows you to save settings but IDK what the difference is between the two. I just know that USALS seems to run off the motor sensor and the longitude and latitude that is input into the receiver. It won't let me delete all of the satellites that I have no use for up here.

in the menu where you enter in your lat and long you should be able to edit the satellite position also....i have not used that receiver in a long time so im having a hard time remembering the menus.....but i know i was easily able to do it....it was also fairly easy to add new satellites and TPs....

I did exactly the same thing, modified 84w. To save it, all you have to do is switch over to motor from USALS in the menu and then save the location in the motor menu once you have fine tuned. That way it always moves to the same spot, and it doesn't interfere with USALS. Sorry, I don't have the receiver right here, so I can't give exact steps, but I think you get the idea. I don't think you can remove the satellites, but I find that using the favorites menu is a good way of grouping and not getting confused.

I never have been able to figure out adding a satellite and giving it a USALS position.

so when I add 83w and save the setting in the motor menu how do I make it automatically go to that bird? should it do it automatically as long as it is set to motor? Every time I switch the channel back to it?

If you have it defined as 83w in the usals setup then the motor will go there automatically, this is assuming your motor and dish are aimed correctly, what method are you using? Usals? Or are you just manually storing positions yourself?

Once you save the position, scan the transponders that you entered. It will lock and then you should see the names of the channel it finds. When you exit it will ask you to save. After that, whenever you select that satellite from the the satellite list (the SAT button at the bottom of the numeric pad) the dish motor will move to the saved position. It will do the same thing if you add the channels to the favorites (FAV button at the top right of the remote) and select those.

That is assuming that everything is set up correctly otherwise.;)

there is no listing for 83w on usals and I have no way to enter the compass setting like that so when I dial in the signal I just push the red button which says store position and I do that under the motor menu on the satellite I made up and I stored the position doing it from the 84w brazilsat after I dialed it in on the USALS menu. I want a receiver that lets you enter the compass setting for usals. That would be much easier to add satellites.

i know it is possible to do because i have done it myself in the past.....

If I understand what you wrote up until this point, what you have done is the best that you can working without USALS. I never have been able to create a satellite on this receiver and have it work with USALS either. There was no obvious way to add the compass location at all. That is why I just use the motor settings to get there manually.

That said, Mikey, wish you could remember. I've been playing with this box for a long time and I've never found the solution. SV has some really strange menuing so it is probably hidden somewhere.

I also very much doubt if there will ever be a real firmware update for this receiver again. It has been around for a few years now and I have yet to see anything that isn't pirate related put out for it.

One of these days I'll get frustrated enough that I'll buy something else. :)

Only way to add new orbital positions is by using an external editor on your computer such as Channel Master. As stated, Sonicview's main market is satellite piracy so they won't fix any issues not impacting satellite piracy use of their products.

yes it was difficult to figure it out even for me....i no longer have the receiver so i can not look for you....i wish i could....its been so long i cant really remember what the motor menus look like....if i had the receiver infront of me im sure i could figure it out again....
