Something New: Key Quotes from the D* Investor Call 8/9/07

Yep - proper planning so as to take place after D10 launch. They could have done this a year ago.

But as Chase said - they will have on or very close to 100 HD channels by year end. No one else will be close. Continue to disbelieve if you choose - but him saying this NOW (and only a month ahead of the 70+ HD channel launch) lends total creedence to what is about to happen.

I like D*s proper planning from Sept of '04. It is coming down pretty much as announced at that time - isn't it GREAT?

I was ready to turn off the tube after the pitcher got to bat in the top of the first, then was about to throw my remote through my TV when he let the Phil's get them all back in the bottom. Then I almost threw the remote through the TV again when Bobby took James out after he retired 16 straight!! Just once this season I would like to see my Braves actually allow the pitcher to throw a complete game. We are one of two teams in the entire MLB that do not have a single CG!!! This is ridiculous...

And the same can be said for the Phillies coaching move to take their guy out. After both pitchers chocked in the first, they both threw excellent games. Shame that neither got to throw the last pitch. :(

And they've somehow figured out a way to add even more without increasing their bandwidth or launching new sats.

They bought out another provider and their sat and uplink facility; THEY really didn't do anything . So in fact they do have a new sat increased bandwidth, but its not providing much in the may of "must have" programming.

Time to get back on topic - we really don't need to mention the competition IMO.

The D* investor call pretty much confirmed what we have been expecting regarding the HD national channel plans

It said VOD would launch in the fall - that is 90 - 120 days behind what they expected in April. Based on the majority of comments on the forums, not a big deal for most. Better it be done right than rushed IMO. And with the HD stuff about to come out - better they focus on THAT. The VOD offering is going to be great from what I have seen.

Let the others have their fun and their taunts while they can, because it won't be for long really. The trolls will continue their nonsense.

I do have a feeling that many signatures around here will be changing in about 30 days - LOL

I know...I guess my question was aimed more along the line of should we continue paying a premium for HD when just about every major cable provider will be offering an HD channel within the next year?

exactly. That's why when I put in DISH Network last October, I elected not to get HD receivers - I don't feel like I should be paying a premium for HD content.

When DISH removes the HD premium, I'll upgrade my receiver to HD receiver.

It's pretty good for me currently not having DISH HD - I get more HD sports events and other HD programming events with my 10' dish right now than I would have gotten with DISH Network HD offerings.

But not as many as you could have with D*!

I also currently get more HD event feeds with my big dish than I could have gotten with DIRECTV if I decided to upgrade my 10 year old DIRECTV receiver to get DIRECTV HD services. :D

No matter what provider (DISH or DIRECTV), i'm not paying a premium for HD. Those premiums (or "enabling fees" as some providers call it) will evaporate in the next year or two I'm guessing as HDTV sets become more commonplace in subscriber homes and having a HDTV version of a same SD channel isn't a rarity but rather common.

True but there's more than one way to increase revenue. Hopefully that additional revenue comes from additional subscribers (VOLUME) as opposed to significantly raising prices on exisiting subscribers.

Mike
They will raise prices. The statement was just to encourage subs to sign 2 year contracts. Once you are signed up you have no choice but to endure the price increase.

It is a virtual guarantee. Every year they say they aren't going to do that, yet they always do. That's why my account is currently suspended with an aim to cancel.

Didn't you enter into a new 2 year agreement when you activated your HR20 a few weeks ago? If so, you're also into the price increases when they occur.

Remember that HR20, it's the one you got when you decided that FIOS's HD DVR HD wasn't big enough after promising all of us for months that you were going to switch to FIOS.

Any word or idea on "How much VOD will cost and will it be movie by movie or possibly one price for the month ??

D* did not say there would not be a price increase for HD, they said there would not be one THIS YEAR ...
Everyone thats NOT new knows that there is a price increase of some sort every March.... also, when looking at the increases compaired to my local Cable Co. the increase is not nearly as much as Cable.

So sad. All the discussion and NO mention of Picture Quality. So sad.

I have a feeling that PQ will be talked about alot once the new sats are up and operational and people have a chance to see how good thier picture looks compaired to what it was.

Of course then the D* bashers will be back out in full force, many of them that don't even have D*, I'm sure they will have thier opinion.
