No rain fade with 24 inch VOOM dish in SoCal
I just went through my first rain storm in San Diego with a 24 inch VOOM dish. The received signal strength dropped a few points (from 98-99 to 93-95), but there were absolutely no signal dropouts or picture anomalies during the storm.
The dish mounting angle in SoCal is just about vertical, as the feed horn is offset; the elevation angle to the satellite is about 20 degrees, which is very low. Be careful of nearby structures and trees. The azimuth angle in San Diego is about 100 degrees true (i.e, just a little south of due east).
