Just got word some locals are moving off of the 148 satellite and instead will be available on one of Dish Networks other satellites (as shown Below).

Those areas are:

Chyanne, WY - 110 Satellite (October 1st)
Lubbock, TX - 110 Satellite (October 1st)
Medford, OR - 110 Satellite (October 1st)
Billings, MT - 110 Satellite (October 15th)
Rapid City, SD - 110 Satellite (October 15th)
Abilene, TX - 129 Satellite (October 15th)
Casper, WY - 129 Satellite (October 15th)
San Angelo, TX - 129 Satellite (October 15th)

Existing customers who will need a Dish 100.02 to receive the 129 satellite will be contacted by Dish Network on or around the week of October 15th via mail in order to setup a changeover to a Dish 1000.3 at no charge. For those customers local network programming will be simulcast on the 148 and 129 orbital locations until the migrations are complete.

If there are any changes or updates you will find out here first at SatelliteGuys.US! Thanks for your support!

I am assuming that the ones going to 110w are going onto a spotbeam, because if they were on CONUS it would be a waste of space.

Also, outside of Fairbanks and Juneau, those are ALL of the locals that are moving off of Echostar 1.

Well Echostar 5 @129w is expected to be moved to 148 once Ciel 2 is launched.

Scott- Any word if the move is because of the life-span of E1, or is it just simply that that they are moving them in-line with all the other locals as a one dish solution.

Pity those moving to the failing 129 bird. Transponder 2 can't break 30 on the best day and most of time it runs less than 25.

The Million Dollar question is: will E 5 be able to make the trip over to the 148 slot? What E* should do is, put all 148 customers on the 118.7 slot and thus eliminate this huge problem with ageing satellites. Everyone will have strong signals and let E 1 and 5 rest in peace with E 2 in satellite heaven.

well let see

the int'l on 148 are moving to 118.7
the locals on 148 are moving to 110/129

so that leaves a few PI channels (which until they completely kill the satellite slot they HAVE to have at least 4% of the channels as PI channels) and some business type channels there

what does Dish have up its sleeve??

Well, since E11 is so powerful, they can turn it towards E5 for a day and the microwaves will bounce off the solar panels, thus pushing E5 further away. Once it gets close to 148, they'll turn E11 towards 101 and start pushing DirecTV's birds because E11 is a bully like that. :D

Best thing Dish could do for AK/HI is mirror 110 on 148. Heck they could even mirror both 110/119 in MPEG-4 and have a single dish solution for them at a better elevation.

That would probably require Dish reviving the 157w orbital location, and that isn't going to happen anytime soon.

It is interesting to note that some of the internationals that have left 61.5 have not left 148. So its not on a 1:1 ratio to the 119k satellite.

I imagine 148 isn't so much a priority for clearing off channels. They're not running any available HD channels off of 148 nor are they activating any spot beams (as if E1 has them).

I think DISH has license for all 32 Tps on 148. If that's the case, they can probably run all of 119/110 channels on 148 once they have a satellite that can run all 32 there instead of the 16 you get with just E1 without it's partner. Also, a 1000.2 dish can receive 148 and 129 at the same time, so with Ciel 2 up at 129 and a decent satellite at 148, AK and HI wouldn't be treated as bastid children anymore. They might need bigger than 1000.2 up in AK and HI but the spread of satellites can be accomplished. Also, TeleSat or someone similar in Canada has sought out or is approved for DBS operations at 138. That company has stated they will lease half of those TPs to other operations.

In your location. Many areas have solid signals. The replacement will bring solid signals to all. <insert crossed fingers smiley>

Heard a rumor that Dish would offer TurboHD to existing customers

Dish's Media Center App
