So I see I had a software update on my HR-44 done and haven't noticed anything new. What's new about the latest update ?

Depends which update you pulled. If it's 929 it's mostly cosmetic and some tools for techs to deal with wireless.

Yea they pulled the wvb reset menu that was released in 929 from 93d

Not yet. Still in CE.

My hr44 took an update the other day & now my smart search keyword auto record is recording everything under the sun with the the first word of the search phrase instead of searching for the entire phrase....auto record for "monster high" is recording anything and everything in the guide that has "monster" in the title or description.

Don't you use the search to find the show you want in the guide ?
That way you would be assured of recording the show you really want.

Or do you use the Record button from the Search ?

I've never had any luck using that particular Record button.
That said, they have changed the way it works several times since I tried it last.

You can search on a keyword or phrase then choose to autorecord, I have had a lot of success over the years with this feature (across different HR model numbers). The DVR will record anything that pops into the guide with that keyword or phrase. 0x93d is the firmware # that downloaded, never had a problem till then...

I really don't use that feature as the last time I did, years ago, it didn't know to record the correct channel I wanted.

Sounds like it's much better now.

Yeah I use it to auto record stuff that I want to see no matter what channel its on. One of them being Van Halen, it will record any program on any channel that has anything to do with Van Halen. Where the new software is going wrong is that it's recording anything with the word van instead of both words van & halen...

gotcha ... is there any way to put words together, such as Van+Halen ?

I am not sure, I was wondering if that was a change point for this new firmware, but I didn't see any other discussion of the issue one way or another. I haven't tried it, it was never needed before & the HR44 is the only one doing it, none of the other dvrs (HR20, hr21 & hr23) are having this issue.
I actually cancelled the keyword auto record series links that i had on the HR44 because it was recording so many shows incorrectly.

The HR44 runs entirely different software from the others, thats why it's not happening with the others.

That's a Boolean search. It is doing the right thing.

Put AALL in front of your phase.

CCHANS 254

I have CCHANS as the last command in the Boolean. It can be a single channel [254] or a range [254 256]. I use Boolean for my PBS recordings as PBS programs are not always on all PBS channels.
