SoapNet moving to Channel 253

As of 6/30 SoapNet will be permanently on Channel 253 which makes no sense at all!

Juan, you may just be right. Now that Dish has "100% local" coverage, they may well try to 'get rid of Soapnet' in order to make the local station owners happy! (get rid of their competition).

"In 2012, Disney Junior will take the place of SoapNet, a 10-year-old channel devoted to soap opera reruns that is available in about 75 million homes, according to Anne Sweeney, co-chairwoman of Disney Media Networks."
Disney, which is trying to secure long-term advertising commitments for SoapNet, emphasized that the channel would not go dark for 18 months or so. The company is in the final stages of obtaining approval for the new format from cable affiliates that carry SoapNet.

Great! Now we have 2 more channels Disney can shut down on Dish. Oh, wait, these are in SD so Dish can keep these.

253 is pretty close to the religious channel range. Which is how some people feel about their soaps especially if they need a channel where they can watch soaps 24/7.
