So whos NOT getting a Hopper due to lack of OTA?

Doesn't DISH have just 10 more days until Fall is officially here to get the OTA adapter out when they said it would be out (summer)?

june or july was the previous estimate. We've since blown right past that.

I think the new estimate is "soon"

The only thing I can say is...

My hoppers and joey have been solid and a little afeared OTA would create buggies but still will get it. Since the montreal stations upped the signal strength i can get them even with antenna pointing oppo direction

I like my Hopper well enough despite the bugs, but the lack of OTA and AMC does have me browsing the DirecTV website for the first time in several years. Just sayin'.....

I am guessing by now someone out there is testing that USB OTA add on that we saw a photo of a few months ago, BUT cant tell us due to a NDA or black out press agreement.

Someone can't say anything about it. Is the manual timer enabled yet? Did you make the connection about Game Finder not getting pushed with the latest beta update? I'm dying to hear you talk!:D

Sure would be cool if you could buy TWO OTA tuners to a Hopper, then I could record a lot of stuff. Hope the price is OK and that they are high quality tuners not some el cheapo USB tuner.

What can I say, I watch a lot of locals and sub channels as I get Two DMAs over the air.
It would be like having 5 tuners. Or 8 of you count Dishes accounting practice of saying you can record 6 things during prime time.

I would be very pissed if that were the case! Doubt that they'll be dropping it also a Dish employee (Vivek) has confirmed that manual timers will be added.

Nothing has really been confirmed. While I'm sure Vivek would not have posted if it wasn't likely, stating a feature is "on the list" is a long way from confirming it will be definitely be added.

It's already been stated that the tuner is the latest and greatest, and that is why it is so big.

And remember, Dish could just drop any plans for the OTA tuner and there's absolutely no recourse.

No offense, but anyone who has upgraded to a Hopper expecting anything (like OTA) that wasn't available at the time of the upgrade, is either an eternal optimist, or hasn't followed Dish for very long. I still remember the look of total disinterest/backtracking when Scott first asked Vivek about OTA capabilities on the Hopper during one of the original introduction videos.

That said...I still really hope we get one someday.

Happy thought. :D But you are assuming that their original aka the "latest and greatest" design, lo these many months ago, didn't subsequently get vetoed due to cost. For all we know, the final design will be more traditional (i.e. smaller), or they will just package air and keep fooling us about what's inside. Or take years like they did with the Sling Extender and then cancel it without notice. Or select a well-known vendor like they did with the wireless dongle, and then lock it down with firmware checks.

I thought the sling extender shown at CES was a production model and was eventually approved by the FCC before Dish cancelled it.

It was...

And I agree with DISH for killing it before releasing it. (I didn't feel that way until they sent me one to test out and after testing it I was GLAD they killed it.) The Hopper / Joey route was the best way to go as if that Sling extender was released you would have seen a LOT of angry people.
