When I get a cell phone, I look for the cheapest one I can find.
It's only a cell phone, I can't even see paying $100 for a phone.

Im with you. If it wasn't for my wife I wouldn't even own one. However she insist we need them incase of emergency. So i got the cheapest (free) ones that can send and recieve calls.
It will be interesting to see how the iPhone does. I bet carriers love the pricing model and want it to succeed. They make the user pay the full price of the phone up front, then lock them into a service contract anyways for 2 years. No wonder ATT likes this. I bet they wish they could do the same with all their phones.
I am, but after my 20th iPhone commercial tonight, even I have had my fill of that folksy music...
So can you bu the iphone w/o a contract ? I'm mean is there a "non Contract Price" ie retail , in other words what if someone wanted it for Prepaid purposes ( don't know why you would but still)

What is with Apple and batteries. Has there ever been a cell-phone where the battery was NOT instantly replaceable?
I agree with you. Their products are always a little different with some cool unique features but there is always something better out there IMHO.
Compared to a Blackberry, I would believe typing email messages on the iPhone would be more difficult.
And no, I will not be getting one.
You buy it without a contract, but it is not useable until you get it activated via ATT (through itunes) which requires a contract. It does not have a replaceable sim card so you are locked into ATT.
I have had Verizon forever and they treat me great. I don't really think I need a phone for $600. I think I would rathe make a couple of car payments.
I currently have a Treo 700wx from Alltel (had a Starcom 6700 just before that) and have no desire for an iPhone. There are a few deal breakers for me. First is that as of yet we have no Exchange syncing. If it can't sync email, contacts, appts and tasks over the air it is useless to business users. Next is the lack of a fast data connection. I know that Apple and AT&T love to say "but it has Wifi", well that doesn't help me 90% of the time when I need the data services of my phone.
Now for the big killer. I have had a "smartphone" for about a year and a half now. When I first got it I was amazed. I could call people, email, browse the web, listen to music, watch videos, check the weather, ssh to servers, ect all from one device. Now, down the road I simply don't use most of those extra features. I simply want a device that makes calls easily, gets my emails quickly and syncs with Exchange. The rest just doesn't make much sense anymore. Browsing the web (no matter how nice the browser) isn't fun on that small of a screen. The Tree 700wx has hit the nail on the head for me. Palm has a great phone.

Looks cool, but I'll stick with Verizon. Plus, even if I could get it on Verizon, I would not pay that price.
Not until the network is 3G and they put a 60 or 80 gig hard drive in it. 8 gigs just isn't enough for me and my mp3s.
Who needs an Iphone when you can instead get a real Fox News Wireless Microphone.
