Smithsonian HD

Of course a question that exists with all "new" HD channels is: where are they getting the content from?

I suppose ScienceHD and DiscoveryHD are new, but a lot of their content is from DiscoveryHD theater. So to some extent you're getting a new channel but not much new content.

Smithsonian might be buying its shows from another network that had existing "HD" channels (e.g. A&E Networks, Discovery Networks) and, of course, one can expect that a lot of it won't be in any form of HD.

This channel will not be any good in the beginning. Maybe by next year it will have enough hd hours accumulated that you will see it all again in repeats. :D

Unless any of these new channels create new programming for their own channels instead of buying existing programming from another network, what is the purpose other than to re-air programs that can be seen on another channel? Just what we need to pay extra for....more repeats.
