This past Friday, for one night only, I was getting a 359 Error Message everytime I selected an HD channel with a warning that my Smart Card would expire on April 9. The message instructed me to call Cusomter Service if you haven't received a new Smart Card. I called and CS said they would send me a new DVR/Receiver as that would be easier than having me replace the cards as I have a 622 and a 222. I went for CS's recommendation, but now have second thoughts. Won't I lose all of my 622 Timers and recorded programming when I replace the 622? Can someone tell me why I even need to replace my Smart Card and secondly why did the warning go away, I haven't yet taken any action.

All you need to do is replace the smart cards, you don't need to replace the receiver. Yes, you will lose your recordings and timers if you replace the receiver. I'm still waiting for my cards and I called last week.

Dish is moving to a new version of their encryption system (Nagravision v2 to Nagra v3) in an effort to stop signal piracy. This requires new smart cards for all active receivers, except for the very newest models, which will already have a 3rd-Gen card built-in. The new cards you receive will be purple.
