I know this has been discussed at length, the slow channel changing, and in general slow menu actions, but I was talking to an installer a few weeks back, asked him if any of the new receivers were any faster in regards to this.

His answer was interesting, and rather than rewire a bunch of stuff to test this out (I have a fairly complex set-up with lots of equipment comingled and many of the wires aren't exactly easy to get to), I thought I'd ask here if anyone had any experience with this.

He said the slow action is not so much the receiver itself, but all the checking and so forth that slows things down between the HDMI connection.

Now I really don't want to install component cables instead (although I may not really notice a change in picture quality being that my TV is 720p), but the slow response is frustrating (I've always chalked it up to maybe low memory), if it gets worse it may be worth trying.

Any thoughts on that? Could it really be the HDMI connection?

It's the receiver's. Have not noticed any difference between HDMI and component.

I'm not talking about the change of the channel based on native, because that will slow things down. I am talking about hitting something on the remote and then 5 - 10 seconds later the receiver responds. It's basically I do my customer ed the same way so that they can't really see how slow the receiver is. The nice part has been that the HR24 is much faster than the 21 - 23's, and all I have seen in the last month or so is HR24's.

One of the problems is that not all TVs switch resolutions quickly. That's why with Native turned off, the TV doesn't need to make a switch, thus speeding up the perceived channel change. With my older Mitsubishi RP HDTV, I get lots of flashing etc with Native turned on. But, having the HR23 output only 1080i, I get none of that.
