If use the SingBox AV and then use the S-video out on 622, what happens to the picture when you are watching HD 16x9 programs on PC?

Does SingBox software let you contol this?

Will the SingBox AV work with 622 or do have to have SlingBox Pro?

Slingbox or Slingbox Pro work with the Vip622, but even with a Slingbox Pro you will not get HD from it. Another caveat is Slingbox (and the Pro Unit) can NOT control the TV#2 output (When the Vip622 is in Dual Mode) as that tuner only accepts UHF remote signals and the Slingbox can only use IR signals to control devices.

If the 622 is in Single mode and you use the S-video outputs, the 4:3 output of the S-Video can lose its proper aspect ratio being squashed horizontally.

I have our 622 connected to a Slingbox AV and I just select Video Size -> 'Widescreen (16:9)' on the Windows Client and I get the correct Aspect Ratio and it displays just like on the Widescreen TV (Black bars on the sides for 4x3 programming and the complete screen width for 16x9).

On the Palm Mobile client, I choose Letterbox.

I've had no probs w/ my 622 outputting downrezzed widescreen HD to my Slingbox via S-video (and to a DVD recorder, btw--if you have a recorder like the Sonys that allow solid 16:9 flag settings). In both the Mac and PC clients, just pick 16:9 and you get proper aspect ratio.

So with the Pro, even on local network you will not get HD if you use the HD cable that is availble for the Pro?

If the answer is no HD output from Pro, then what is the advantage of the Pro over AV if you only want to connect to 622?

You'll be able to tune HD channels fine... the resolution you see using the slingplayer is not HD is what they're trying to tell you. Using a PRO you hook up via component and the PQ is very nice (on a LAN) but it maxes out at like 640x480 or 800x600 (can't remember off the top of my head).

Selecting the proper video mode will give you proper framing when watching content. So while it's not true HD you're getting the output you want (ie 16x9 and it will not look funny)

Your never going to get HD over any kind of sling box type of device. There is not enough bandwidth to support full HD over the internet yet.

Maybe in like 10 years when our homes will come with 10/GBs up and down standard!

I currently have all gigabit switches and all my computers have gigabit nics, so if SlingBox were to have a gigabit nic card it would seem to me that they could get HD down the pipe on the local home network.

I recenty attended an Intel traing session where they issued 8 notebook computers with N wireless and we all watched the same HD content at the same time. It was a Microsoft HD file (one of the ones you can download from their web site) that was streaming from a local computer. N wireless has a spec of 300 mbps, but its true is about 100 - 150. So I think gigabit wired or N wireless can handle the load.

Since I currenly have HD DVR's on my TV's, I really don't have a need for HD from SlingBox over local network. My main use would be with a widescreen notebook in hotels using hotel Wifi or a Verizon broadband card and with Treo 700w smart phone. So I am trying to see if any reason to get SlingBox Pro vs. SingBox AV?

You can easily do HD over a 100 network... think of the bitrates for HD they often max out at 18-30mbps (for MPEG2 content).

I have a 15 / 2 connection at my house and I watch the sling over it, it's pretty good looking. So the sling not having a gigabit interface (while I think it sucks) doesn't effect it's ability to do HD.

Besides even if they did push HD over sling, it'd be compressed and adaptable bitrate like it currently is for SD.

Sling will be debuting a new HD Slingbox at CES. The box is currently at the FCC seeking certification. :)

It will be great for HD for internal use at your house plus will give a good picture when your away.
