Here's my question....When I'm travelling, I usually setup my 18" oval on a tripod (very easy). I don't get locals doing that, which is why I'm going to acquire another slimline pretty soon (I want to view locals when travelling) to install when I'm on the go.

Ok, I've been looking at the slimline mounted at my house and the thing looks pretty intimidating as far as a potential install is concerned. Are there any tips, tricks, etc. that I need to be aware of before attempting the install?

Ark: your dish should not dictate your "locals" reception. I have used my 18" and gotten locals as far as 150 miles from "home." The Slimline will be harder to align and, unless you're planning to do HD, is not worth it.:coo: (another thought... my SD locals are on 101)

I can get my locals where I'm travelling (I've done it with an additional oval pointed at the 72.5 bird). Supposedly my locals are now mirrored on whatever satellite that the slimline picks up, so I don't need the extra dish pointed at the 72.5

I just figured I'd go ahead and get the slimline installed and be done with it (I don't need the hi -def feature that the slimline offers). I'm not too tech savvy as far as knowing what channels are broadcast on which satellite and what not.

Can I use the 18" oval now that my locals are mirrored and pick up my standard channels PLUS locals? What satellite do I need to point to if so? Thanks for the help.
