How much sleep do you guys need to function reasonably effectively?

I always used to need at least 7 hours, but now can go on around 5 1/2. I find the colder it is, the higher quality my sleep.

I have a friend who feels perfectly fresh after just 3 hours.

Mine varies, I do not use an alarm since I really do not have to worry about sleeping in since I do not go to work most of the time until around noon. It varies some, seem to sleep a bit longer in the winter (probably because it is darker in the morning) 7-8 hours. Probably 7.5 hours would be the average for me to be perfect all day and not get tired. I usually go to be between 1 and 2 am and get up just after 9am.

8 hours is what I try to strive for but if I get 6 or 7 I am fine but sometimes 6 is not enough. In order to feel fair for the next day I need at least 4 or 5 but thats borderline. 4 or less hours is when I really start feeling bad the next day.

Scientists did research stating that those with 5-7 hours of sleep lived longer but the scientist said that he still strives to getting 8 hours each night.
