SKY ANGEL ANNOUNCES FORMATION OF NEW PRODUCTION COMPANY, PROMOTION OF TWO

NAPLES, FL—June 27, 2007— Dominion Video Satellite Inc., owner and
operator of the Sky Angel nationwide, Christian-family-oriented
television service, announces the creation of Sky Angel Productions
LLC and the promotion of two officers to oversee the new sister company.

Kathleen Johnson, formerly vice president of programming for Dominion
Video Satellite, has been promoted to president of Sky Angel
Productions LLC. In her new role, Johnson will be utilizing her
recognized talents as a veteran Emmy award-winning producer to create
and enhance programming for Sky Angel’s owned and operated television
networks as the primary function of the newly formed production company.

Johnson has more than 20 years of experience in television with a
diverse background covering all aspects of the medium. Since joining
Sky Angel in 1998 as vice president of programming, Johnson has had
oversight of Sky Angel’s programming department and related projects,
including the creation of America’s first 24-hour faith-based
television network for kids and teens, KTV, and many of Sky Angel’s
award-winning commercials and infomercials. Prior to joining Sky
Angel, Johnson enjoyed an established career as an accomplished TV
network news producer, most recently with NBC in Washington, D.C.

Joining Johnson to assist with a variety of production projects is
Hope Daley, who has been promoted to vice president of Sky Angel
Productions LLC. Daley previously served as assistant vice president
of programming, responsible for day-to-day departmental operations
and assisting with the development of innovative TV programs and
national special events. Prior to joining Sky Angel in 2002, Daley
had 13 years of sales, marketing and management experience with
Fortune 500 companies, receiving multiple awards for exceeding sales
goals and for initiating employee growth and development programs.

Could it be, hopefully, SkyAngel intends on "one" of their companies (this new sister?) to continue broadcasting via satellite for those of us who can't access IPTV?

very unlikely. SA already has asked the FCC to transfer the 8 transponders they own to Dish Network

The new company could try to get one of its channels carried on DirecTV as a PI channel though - and it would be cheap promotion for the new SA-IPTV.

you cant advertise on PI channels, which is why RFD TV was removed as a PI channel.

Someone should tell that to the Documentary Channel (DOC) and Colours TV. Both of them air a number of what are apparently "per inquiry" ad spots - encouraging viewers to call the number on screen to order or donate to a cause.

(I can possibly believe that when such ads benefit a non-profit organization, such as various children's charities, that it may be acceptable to do this on a PI channel. And some of the DOC spots are for such charities. But some are just selling whole life insurance policies, or motor scooters, etc.)

And, it is apparent to me that both channels I cite do understand the guidelines for "underwriting" at some level, because DOC does show Duracell spots that comply, although it is unclear whether their insertion in a Duracell-underwritten series (which even uses batteries as on-screen graphics during the show) would turn the whole thing into a "program-length commercial" per FCC rules.

In addition, Colours TV, during their evening anime block from FUNimation TV, has a collection of relatively long spots which seem (other than length) to meet underwriting standards, as they do not contain call to action or pricing info, but merely showcase various anime series and mention the availability of DVD sets. Again, if one of these spots happened to air during an episode of the series it promotes, it could be a "program length commercial" in the eyes of some.

And, to get back to the central topic - if SA* advertised SA-IPTV on an SA*-owned PI channel, would this really be advertising? As they would only be promoting another product offered by the same company. I mean, if that is not allowed, TV preachers will have to quit offering books, DVDs, conferences, cruises, etc, etc. related products at the end of their programs.

To give another example - if 3ABN promotes their new IPTV service, would that not be allowed on a PI channel? I think it would be okay, although since it is technically owned by a third party, they would probably need to be cautious to "identify, yet not promote" it.
