Skip Back and Rewind wasn't working on Channel 9480 or 9486 (fixed)

I agree, is this probably Dish testing a "non-commercial skip" future.

Just look at the Tivo....The series one version would MARK THE COMMERCIALS on the time line progress bar, and let you skip right to the end of the commercials and on with the show. Then, Series 2, 3, etc. don't have this feature. They disabled it because to many people were taking advantage of it.

This is probably the same thing happing with Dish, and they better not do it because I will cancel. They still haven't sent me my 722 to replace the 622 that they said they would "upgrade for me" for FREE.

I am getting tired of all this!

Come on folks, stop jumping to conclusions and worrying like old ladies. The what or why is not known. Don't start inventing ones.
I know a few "old ladies" that might resent that statement sonny:).

And what's wrong with "inventing" possibilities - it's called speculating.

Are you willing to go on record as stating that Dish has NOT had to make any copy restriction concessions in their negotiations with certain channel providers? Do you really believe that Dish reneging on allowing external HDD portability doesn't have anything to do with copying limitation?

This is a "discussion" forum - that's what we do.

Agreed! Why should we not discuss, why we can't use the dedicated DVR functions on certain channels? These functions were part of the contract as far as I remember.

They don't need to test it. They already have it working for those things you are not allowed to record.

But as part of the FCC rulings the most that most channels are suppose to turn on is record once. Turned on for the premium movie channels. I think this is probably some mistake made on these two channels, not a test.

If this is what it could be, and it get's implemented like that, I'll cancel Dish, unless I get it for half the price. That's worthless. This is not why I got a DVR.
Here we go again. Another 60 page thread of the sky is falling speculation, insinuation, cancellation threats, and Dish Bashing in the making. How about waiting for some hard core facts?

Well since we have over 500 posts to go before we get there, why don't you lighten up for at least the first 10 pages and of course there's always the option of not reading threads that apparently cause you stress.

Just be thankful it's only on VOOM channels, and not on any of the important channels! :p

(yes...I meant that jokingly!) :up

Just want to get this in before we get close to 60 pages:D.

This indeed could very well be a glitch. I emailed Voom about 5 hours ago but haven't heard back. Chances of getting any word from either Voom or "E" on a Sunday is probably not likely.

In any event and in my opinion (unhumble as it may be:)), we should never miss the chance to opine our feelings against any kind of infringement of our fair and lawful rights to "fair use".

Here's a good perspective at: Separating fact from fiction on digital copyrights | Perspectives | CNET News.com

Consumer rights in the digital age are not frivolous. We have them, we should protect them, and U.S. copyright law guarantees them. Consumers may copy, distribute, perform and transmit portions of a publication or work provided that such use constitutes "fair use," which is a legal way of saying that we can enjoy limited and nonlicensed use of copyrighted material without requiring permission from the rights holder.
Fair use is not merely a nice concept--it is a federal law based on free speech rights under the First Amendment and is a cornerstone of the creativity and innovation that is a hallmark of this country.

There's no doubt the entertainment industry looses billions to real piracy and trying to stop mass, illegal copying is certainly understandable but spending millions to undermine "fair use" is not the answer. Punishing the innocent to stop the guilty never is but it's easier and cheaper than actually going after the parties (and countries) that are really doing the damage.

I reiterate my question: Has anyone called dish to ask what's up?
I called, but have you ever tried talking to them on picture issues not related to the receiver. And especially on weekends. After wasting a lot of time (check switches, etc), they ended up saying they would forward to someone and get back to me.

Last time on a such a technical issue noone got back to me, so I don't really expect much this time.

You get better results using other channels and some email addresses. Twice got good results that way. I think this time we will get better results from some of our members with contacts within dish bringing it to their attention and getting an answer.

Here is an email address for the betabugs -tech address I used when I signed up to test the L4.01 software. I suggest all write an email to them and include the software you are on to show a problem. I wrote mine . THis should get someone at dish to notice.

beta.bugs@echostar.com

ON an unrelated note I can no longer connect to DISH using the dish home features to pay your bill or to add programming but I can connect using the analysis button under diagnostics . It does connect and shows it in my counters menu as well. THe connection shows good on both phone and ethernet connections. I wonder if this is related to DISH enabeling the ethernet connection? Anyone else having problems with this too?

Problem Forwarded to DISH Engineering on Saturday

Before I posted the original problem on Saturday, I called DISH technical support. The gal that I spoke to had no idea what was wrong but forwarded the problem to the engineering group. Of course at the time, I had not tried to record the channel so I did not realize that the channel would not record. I also sent an email describing the problem to DISH technical support.

I suspect that others are correct in thinking that the digital rights management has been set to never copy. I also suspect that this was not done intentionally but is just a mistake. I tend to always have a positive attitude. Since it is the Labor Day Weekend, I don't expect to hear anything until Tuesday.

I thought i was crazy, glad i was pointed to this thread. I was excited when i saw Rob Roy on VOOM so i set my DVR. Went to watch it and nothing. Tried again one or two more times and same thing. I don't see it listed anytime in the future either :( My first thought was some kind of copyright protection :(

Tried doing this for American Gothic. I figured it was the first glitch in the system. My 501 does this sometimes, but this is the first the 622 has messed up.

I also just went to 9480 and was only able to pause, but when unpaused it skipped ahead to Live TV.

It's kind of funny that you guys bring this up; I have also been having similar problems but on an SD channel. I have tried to record the same episode of Monk on USA three times on my 622 and got a different result each time. The first time it recorded 7 minutes, the second time it recorded 0 minutes, then the third time it recorded 29 minutes. So far all other recordings have been OK. What is going on here?

I just discovered this issue myself on Filmfest and I am quite upset! I don't see it as a coincidence that this happened on the first on the month! I see this as a rather BAD omen for DVR users.

I don't want to write CEO on this. I want to make sure it is a technical issue first. But I really don't think so.

See ya
Tony
