I recently replaced an old RCA SD receiver (yes it's a dinosaur) that is no longer supported by Directv with a new HR34 and a SWM3 dish. The dish at my cottage is just a standard dish.
My question is,can I use my new receiver at the cottage and receive SD programming without any modifications until I invest in a new dish for there,or am I sunk?

I don't have a hr34 but what I've been told a hr34 and h25 is swim comparable only but your not sunk just buy a h24 or hr24 from solid signal.com and set it up for round dish and u should be good for standard programming thats what I've been told on here.

Yes, he could do that, but it will activate a 24 month contract, then again, he just did that with the HR34 anyways, so now is as good a time as any to do it.

I doubt that the HR24 would pass the tests seeing your only looking at the 101, but you can get by with it.

Thanks Jimbo for weighing in,but let me rephrase it.
I take it you have an hr24,same tech as hr34.Could you receive an SD signal by simply plugging it into a standard round dish without the power inserter?
I'm not looking for HD at the cottage, just standard programming for now on 101.
I get all the bells and whistles on the SWiM at home and I'm not looking to purchase another receiver as Jonny suggested.

It's my intention to replace the cottage dish later but I just laid out $600.00 for the hr34.
Oh, and Johnny58259,sorry about the mispelling.
Thanks.

If you don't have the SWM set up dish (you don't at the cottage) you don't use a Power Inserter, IF you are gonna get a newer dish, you can get the Slimline, instead of the Slimline SWM and you'll be fine.

What are you saying here ?

I'm saying the HR34 and the HR24 are basicly the same receiver except for a few more features on the HR34.In the meantime will my receiver display standard programming as would a non HD receiver.Assuming the HR24 and 34 receive standard signals. The reason i'm asking now is because I just opened the box :)

Are you talking about the RCA to use at the lake with the 18" round dish ?
If so, Yes, that would work fine.

Yes the HR24-34 can receive SD signals as well.

No,I'm talking about taking the HR34 back and forth, using the SWM3 dish at home and the round dish at the lake.
I guess the real question is,does it operate as a standard receiver without a power inserter on a round dish tuned to 101?

NO, you can't do that with the HR34, it requires a SWM set up to work, regardless.

Is the HR34 your only recvr ?

I don't know either how many receivers u have either but if u just happen to have one hr34 and no more receivers u could buy a d12 standard receiver that will work with a standard round dish or swim setup.
