OK this one has me stumped

Hooked up a Dish300 to get the PI channels on 61.5 and to see the HDTV Demo channel

I also put the Dish500 near the Dish300. Legacy Twin on 500 and Dual on 300..Dish 811

nice strong signals (100+ on 119 TP11 & 12, 90 on TP11 on 110, 115 on TP12 61.5)

Hook up a SW21 and run check switch

61.5 stays the same
but everything on 110 & 119 drops 15-20 points. Now most TP's are 75-80. A few on 119 are 100

so I try a new SW21...and that one is fried :(
so I try a new SW21...and same results

I even tried swapping the inputs on the switch...same thing
Unhook switch and run cable direct (used a barrel connector) and 110/119 is back and booming

what the heck could be causing this??

Have you switched the inputs on the SW21? Not sure that it would make a difference though. You could atleast see if the 61.5 signal drops.

HDTVFanAtic you really should READ the entire post before you make a suggestion

In this scene, I can only think of two possible problems, since you added the legacy dual to the setup which in turn everything was fine till this was added makes me think it might be a bad dual, possibility number two could just be a bad piece of cable somewhere where the cable is shorted out just enough to let signal pass but not enough to knock it out. Hope this helps.

it cant be a bad dual because the signals on 61.5 don't drop

They're brand new 12 foot cables going to the switch then another 15 feet into the house to the receiver.

If I hook them up directly (hook the cables together with a barrel connector) and bypass the switch both get nice good signals

Its just the Legacy Twin that is whacking it up....maybe its the 811?

and what is weird is I use to run this setup when I first had Dish..had a 301 and a 5000

both were fine then

OK...this gets weirder

swapped cable...same thing
swapped SW21 (again)....same thing
swapped Twin LNB...same thing
Hooked the cable to port 1 of the switch and unhooked the cable from port 2 (61.5)...same thing!!

said hell with it and hooked up a barrel connector...back up to 100+ for all 119 and 90+ for 110

gonna try DishPro tomorrow. I have some dual stacked LNB's and gonna try that.

Have you tried a different receiver? Just to clear the mistery. I had something similar happened to me with a 501, it would do it only only on that receiver though.

how far is the 811 from the dishes, sometimes distance can drop signal, esp when a switch is added. Legacy has about a 200 ft distance from dish to receiver. YOu could try a power inserter to correct this if this is the cause. Just an idea

yep. tried a 3700 (I think thats what it is)
same thing

tried my old 5000...same thing (and those read low to begin with)

40 feet tops

I spent about 2 hours swapping everything out to DishPro (really didn't want to). Now have 100+ on almost all TP's

Dish500 with I adapter on 110
Dish300 on 61.5
119 LNB next to my G10 FTA dish

One of the reasons I didnt want to go DishPro was the cable in the house was only rated up to 1800MHZ (When the lady who owned the house before me had DIsh, she had old Legacy Quad and Legacy receivers)
