Signal Strength

Looking for some advice. We've had terrible rain fade. I never had problems like this in my previous home (>5 years ago) with Dish or DirecTV. There are no trees in the LOS that could impact the signal, either.

I'm wondering if my dish alignment needs adjusted. I've attached pics of the signal strength on a normal day. I apologize if I've included too much or too little. Please let me know if you would like anything else to help.

I thought I'd ask for help here before spending hours on the phone with DirecTV.

Also, are there any installers in the Central Illinois area that I could get to install a dish heater?

Yes, your dish needs pointing. 99 and 103 are Ka band, dishes have a narrower beamwidth on 99 and 103 than on Ku band 101. You can have fairly good signals on 101, but not 99 and 103. You want to adjust for good signals on all 3.

Yes, thos signals are terrible. Your 99 and 103 signal should all be in the high 80s to mid 90s (except for the spotbeams on 99s/103s.

Also, I wonder if these displays are from an old receiver like an H/HR20 or something that DIRECTV doesn't bother to update their signal level screens any longer?

As I notice that 103(ca) tps. 1-8 are still showing as "N/A" when they should all now have levels on them (or at least zeros if out of alignment) ever since T15 began broadcasting on them several months ago.

Those are the new GUI screens so it is a Genie system

No, it's an HR54.

Thanks for you help, everyone! I'm getting in touch with Direct to schedule someone to realign the dish.

Ok, ...

Strange then that your 103(ca) tp. screen still reads the outdated "N/A" for tps. 1-8, which have long been activated and lit up.

Just like my HR54's 103(ca) screen has all tps. 1-24 authorized and with levels for months now. ...

Those tps aren't tied to a RB LNB by chance, are they ?
Meaning it takes a RB LNB to see them correctly .

Good guess ...

As that may indeed be the case since I admittedly have a SWiM type SL-5RB myself ...

Why would they only show up on reverse band?

They show on my H24 and I don't have a reverse band LNB, something odd is happening with his HR54.

That's just it, they shouldn't show up only with a RB LNB. But the assumption was that it might be a firmware issue for non-RB LNBs that DIRECTV engineers just didn't bother to correct which I see now is incorrect.

Thus as you suggest, I guess it's just something odd going on with the OP's receiver then.

Signal on 99/103 looks low.

Until they come out to fix it, I would show all channels in the guide and switch to the SD version.
They're coming out tomorrow morning to fix it, so I should be able to get through tonight. We have clear skies and so far it's only been a problem during rain or heavy cloud cover.
