New to the forums, I hope someone can shed some light on my problem.

I have had my HR21 HD DVR receiver since Wednesday last week. On Saturday, while recording one thing and watching another on Tuner 2, I kept getting lines and artifact in the picture and ultimately lost the picture and receiving a searching for satelitte error. It eventually came back. I checked the signal strength and noticed that on Sat 101, Transponder 1, Tuner 1 I get 95% Consistently. On the same Sat, Transponder, but Tuner 2 I get around 65% Consistently. Moving on to other Transponders and Sats, Tuner 1 & 2 are pretty close and in the high 80s and 90s, while on others I get a pretty large difference in the strengths. DirecTV tech support says that 60 or better for HD Receivers is OK and I shouldn't be concerned. Installer says that the receiver could be bad. I have tried to change the BBand between tuners with no change. I have also switched cables between tuners which caused an increase in the tuner2 signal from the 60s to the 80s, but transponder 5 on sat 101 dropped from 60s to the 40s. I haven't noticed any issues other than that Saturday a week ago. Is this something I need to worry about? Should the signal strengths not be the same on both tuners all the time? Thanks for any help that can be given.

signals fluctuate between tuners and transponders. nothing to worry about. if you're getting low numbers like in the 60 or 70's on 103c ,99c (for hr series) 103a,99b (for h series) then you need to peak your dish because it's to low and will easily succumb to rain fade. should be in the 80's and 90's.

Thanks for the reply, I'll check it out!

If both tuners are being fed by the same dish the signal strenghts should be close to identical. Check the cable on the port that registers low signal for defects and excessive splices. Also make sure that the b bands are not cross threaded at the receiver ports.
