Shaw Equipment need to be replaced by June 5, 2018

showtime, sent u a PM for Triple XKU LNB.

Others (anyone with DirectTV dish parts), can I use the WorldDirect Dish Reflector with an SlimLine Dish LNB arm?
Reason i ask: Showtime confirmed that the Slimline 3 Dish reflector and Arm can be used with the Shaw Direct XKU Triple LNB. I want to know if using a larger Dish Reflector (which would be the Directv World Direct Dish) with the SlimLine 3 LNB arm would work? If it does, i will get the benefit of a larger dish (closer to the Shaw Direct 75E Dish) and also ensure that the SlimLine 3 arm will fit the Shaw Direct XKU Triple LNB.

Decisions, Decisions...

Any input appreciated!

Update.

World Direct Dish did not work, while Slimline did work ok with the triple xku. Took the plunge and ordered a 75E dish and Triple XKU LNB after conferring with some experts on this forum (thanks showtime and mike kohl). I am now getting 90+ signal strength and around 6 to 6.5 signal quality, so i am all set.

Note: World Direct dish WILL not work with Shaw Direct
Slimline 3: depending on area, shd work with shaw direct. for north texas (espl. with poor EL AZ markings on mine), my signal strength was only 70-75 and quality was too low (approx 3.5 to 4), so elected to not use it.

hope this helps for anyone in southern part of USA looking at using other dish reflectors (instead of the 75E).

Q1: How does the receiver channel 988 detect old lnb? Is the IF different between old and new or is it detecting lack of G1 satellite?
Asking because i'm in Texas and understand G1 signal does not reach here.

Q2: Is the 75E dish big enough to receive f1r and f2 satellites in Austin?

Q3: My 830 box frequently tries sw download and fails. I only have one dish pointing to F2 (to get french stations for my wife). Is the data channel for download on F1R or G1 or is it likely my old lnb has too much phase noise?

Q1 The rec does not detect at all, it has to be told what lnb you are using which is changed at Shaws end. They will change the V-code to match it.
Q2 The Shawdirect 75E dish works fine right down into Mexico, best choice if you can get one as they are a tad bigger than the slimline.
Q3 Point your dish to F1 and you should be able to dl the new SW

Good idea to change to new lnb, it will give you a bit stronger signal and at some point Shaw is going to question people that decline to change it.

Thanks i'll order the Shawdirect 75E,

Q: Does the old lnb down convert the frequencies from the satellite differently from the new lnb?
Q: Is phase noise the only difference between old and new LNB?

The big difference is that the new one picks up 3 satellites. There is usually a slight increase of signal strength with the new as well, but some cases a lot better as the old lnb gets weaker over time and eventually fails. In over 20 years of installing, I have never worried about phase noise or any othe noise unless the customer (kids) are playing Hip rot.. lol. But New is always better and the receiver knows what it has to do with the lnb.

Correct, you remove the screw on the lnb and it will slide into the arm on the slimline and just center it then close the spring lock.
You may have to play with the position on the world dish a bit but I would think if it gets 101 it should be pretty close.

Sent you a PM. Could really use some help obtaining one of the new Shaw LNBs. Thank you.

Well you may not know it but you have lost channels that would be in your subscription.
2. If you don't Shaw is going to want to know why. They are now trying to get a hold of customers with old equipment to book a service call to get them updated.
3. The next phase will begin in the Spring when they start to turn off the standard def channels. The goal is to switch the remain channels in sd to HD by the end of 2019 making them all HD.

Everyone is advised to switch to the new LNB if you want to stay under the radar so to speak. :)

It can be done by yourself. Make sure you get your mast absolutely plumb and the skew for the dish correct for your location. Move the dish in very small increments and wait for the signal level to adjust to the new dish position. The 800 series should register the signal faster then older receivers but because of the Vertical and Horizontal polarity of the signal it can be a little more finicky to setup.

We are ready to set up the new dish and the receiver. We are currently using a ten foot Winegard that has cable coming into the house. Will we be able to hook into that cable from outside so we don't have go into the attic crawl space and run a new line to where the cable goes out the wall to where the receiver will be as long as it is the same kind of RG6 cabled?

Upcoming changes and upgrade of our broadcast format to MPEG-4

This month Shaw Direct is entering the final phase of our Satellite Digital Network Upgrade (DNU), an initiative we launched in 2017 to upgrade our broadcast format to MPEG-4, the best-in-class format for TV broadcast in Canada.

As you are all aware, for some time now, we have strategically limited the type of equipment that can be installed and activated on a new customer’s account to DSR600/800 model receivers or MPEG-4 receivers and all LNBFs from Quad to XKU.

Shaw Direct currently broadcasts TV channels using two video formats: MPEG-2 and MPEG-4. MPEG-2 channels require more satellite bandwidth, while MPEG-4 channels utilize a newer and more efficient standard that requires compatible hardware (an MPEG-4 capable receiver) to view.

The equipment used to broadcast MPEG-2 video signals is now reaching end-of-life status.

The above-mentioned LNBF installation and receiver activation restrictions were set in motion to facilitate a multi-year transition to remove MPEG-2 video signals and upgrade all channels to MPEG-4, allowing us to offer all available English and French channels in HD by early 2020.

Since launching our Satellite Digital Network Upgrade (DNU) initiative three years ago, we have been working with our customers to ensure they have the right equipment to enjoy all the benefits that come with this upgrade. The transition has been designed to be as gradual as possible to minimize disruption for our existing customers.

† Important Notice! The next critical milestone of our Satellite Digital Network Upgrade which is the removal of 12 channels on January 21, 2019 may bring impacted clients to your stores
On January 21, the 12 channels listed below will be removed from MPEG-2 maps and will be available only on MPEG-4 receivers. As a result, customers who require an XKU LNB and/or MPEG-4 DSR may come to your stores because their service has been interrupted.

Channels that will be broadcast exclusively in MPEG-4 format
• Sportsnet World

• Book TV

• Fashion Television

• Playboy TV

• Red Hot

• Exxxtasy

• Penthouse

• Fairchild

• Rai Italia

• ATN

• Odyssey

• EWTN,

• CKPR Thunder Bay

• CKPG Prince George

Despite our numerous attempts to reach our customers, some of them may still be unaware of the DNU upgrade initiative. Kindly refer these customers directly to Shaw Direct so that we can have the DNU upgrade conversation with them. Shaw Direct has numerous special offers in place to assist impacted customers through this transition and is in the best position to assist these customers with their specific needs.

Looks like they have selected channels with perhaps limited penetration (tongue firmly in cheek) to get people to move to get their hands on the new equipment so that they can continue their viewing pleasure.

The problem I have is I have one dish with the XKU LNB and three 600 series receivers working fine with the upgrades. I have another dish which im told I am not able to have more than one dish with my account and this dish has two 600 series receivers but the old quad LNB. Am i going to have an issue converting this dish now to XKU for these 2 receivers. To further complicate the dish i need to upgrade is a 70e and the upgraded one is the 60e? Different LNB V codes.

the V code is the same for either size, you need to buy an XKU for the 75E and have shaw switch the remaining rec to the xku, they do not need to know you have 2 dishes.

For anyone South using Shaw / switching to xKu

Shaw Direct in AZ help please
