Just curious. I've started regularly jumping from 123w to 30w every night. I was going to set up an old primestar as a secondary dish and station it at 30w but ran in to some problems... I couldn't get any darn signal at all. Probably hot weather and lack of patience was the main issue. May try again some other day.

Anyways.... is it possible to overuse a motor? I really don't want to burn this motor out. I've had it more or less stationary at 123w until recently, and moved it maybe once or twice a week to other satellites. Now that I'm going to start recording and or watching the the movies on 30w that come on at 12pm (i.e. 11 pm CST) should I be concerned about the motor burning out?

Should we be using these motors everyday?

I was raised with this in mind, "Anythings Possible". But, don't take my word for it, at least not with this question. Maybe Sadoun or Brian (Satellite AV) or Mr.Tim (DMSI) will give us a more appropriate answer?

I've used my motor every day for 3+ years with no issues. And on weekends now it gets moved all the time for feeds :)

I have been told that under usage is worse than over usage. I tend to believe this because I didn't use the motor on my OTA for a long long time. By not using it, it dried out and stuck in place. Had to have the son turn the knob to start it while I twisted it with a pipe wrench. Once it broke loose I put some 90 weight gear oil on it and everything has been fine. I assume this would be the same for a satellite motor. I am constantly using mine. I've had my BUD since 1983 and I am on my second motor. Does that tell you anything?

I used my SG2100 for about two years (Moving across the arc a few times a day) with a 36" dish, then when I upgraded to a 1.2 Meter Dish the SG2100 struggled and finally stopped moving the 1.2 Meter dish, the SG2100 can still move my old 36" dish.

Thanks. I don't feel so bad about spanning almost the entire arc several times a day now. Guess the worst that can happen is the motor will break and I'll have to get another one... still knowing that I'm saving tons of money since the price of the new motor would be way cheaper than it'd cost to sign away my life to cable or dish network or direct tv or blockbuster online...
