Hi,

Good morning.

Setup a system and didn't get anything yesterday. My system is:

Winegard 76" dish, FortecStar Lifetime Ultra, SG2100 motor

I had moved the dish, my question is:

how can I set the motor to 0 using the receiver menu? Or can I use the motor's reset?

Thanks

Mike

You need to pick any satellite (in antenna set up screen) then pick DiSEqC 1.2 and then hit OK. Then you need to motor over to the zero position on the motor. Then it would be a good idea to do a factory default and start a fresh from the zero position, and go for your true south bird.......GOOD LUCK!

Thanks Peter for your reply. You said:

Then you need to motor over to the zero position on the motor.

How do I know it is zero position? visually? Can I use any command like "Go To 0"? I can rotate it to 0 position visually, but I am just not sure how accurate it is.

Regards,

Mike

Setup help needed

Hi, all:

I finally understand how hard it is to setup the motorized system. I am new to all of this so please forgive my ignorance. Please help me!

Here is the system I have:

Winegard 76" dish,
FortecStar Lifetime Ultra,
SG2100 motor
SF95 meter.

I installed the system on Saterday and I didn't get time to adjust it. The system is installed on the shadow side of my roof. But my roof is about 22 degree and the dish is about 1 foot over the roof. So I think it is OK to see the sats.

My location is Portland OR (Longtitude 122.8, latitude 45.8), I set Latitude angle on Motor ~45.8 degree, Dish Bracket angle 23.2 degree (from the table in dish manual).

My true south declination correction is 17.2 degree. So I set my true south at 197.2 degree.

Anyone sees any mistakes I have so far?

I spend the whole Sunday to adjust it. But the best result I can get is: Level 74% and Quality 0%. I was using G10R (123W) as my true south bird.

Anyone can tell me how you use compass to set the angle? It seems that the compass is very small and I have to take it a distance from either motor or metal frame.

I found that if I low Dish Bracket angle or motor Latitude angle, I can get better level (no quality). But if I do that, the values will be different with the values I supposed to use.

Any other sggestions?

If there is anything else I should know, please let me know.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Mike

your pole or setup has to be straight. the motor by default is already set to 0 that means it in the middle all you need to find your true south satellite aim and fine tune it w/ DiSEqC 1.2 to look for other satellite

Sounds like you moved it off the zero position, so as above just move it back as close as you can to the zero (middle) you can simply use the button on the SG2100 to move it back to zero then start all over again!

Motor elevation = 44 deg Dish elevation= 23 deg

The dish elevation is the only thing that can be moved up or down, the motor elevation should never be touched after setting it!

Then it's a case of finding signl quality do not even look at signal strength. Use the compass as a guide and in small increments move the dish until you see quality. Use the signal quality meter on the TV, you need to be able to se the TV from the dish!

Thanks a lot for your help. I will try it again today.

Appreciate!

Thanks for all your reply. Yes, I moved the motor, so the question is now that how I can accurately move it back to 0 position using Fortec Ultralife receiver? Thanks

You will have to use the above method, using the button..... Just get it as close as you can to zero and you will be fine.

I realize that Mike location's true south should be:
180-17.2 (162.8 degrees), not 180+17.2 (197.2 degrees).

- This seems similar to my first experience with the sg2100 and Lifetime Ultra. When I first set up the sg2100, its zero ref. point is off by a few degrees right after it is connected to the receiver. As a result, I had trouble finding any sat at all.
I had to re-set sg2100 to zero point from the receiver (USALS-> Reference Position) and manually used the "Manual Button" on the bottom of sg2100 to move it back to zero position. After that, everything is perfect!
... Just to share my little experience...

Hi, Tom_v and Iceberg:

I saw you have different opinion about the true south and, as a new, I am very confused here. Can anyone of you (or anyone else) clear about this?

Thanks for your help!

Mike

However, you have to deduct the magnetic declination (which is 17.2 degrees for PDX)
Hence, 180 - 17.2 = 162.8 degrees.

Using the compass to find your 180 degree then point the dish at 162.8 degrees

Hi, Tom_v:

Thanks for your quick response.

I am using a motorized system, what I understand from your post that I should point my true south at 162.8 degree on compass. Sorry for my wordy, I am new and want to make sure I understand clearly.

Thanks

Mike
