Want to bring a receiver to camp to watch football!
?Have a model d17 700 receiver. trying to use an 18"x20" 3LNB DISH AT ZIP49911. Can't get a signal. What am I doing wrong. Do I have the wrong dish for this receiver?

I was going to welcome you on your first post, but you have been a member for almost six years! :)
Anyway, I have never heard of a D17 receiver. Maybe it's a D12? You could be doing lots of things wrong, or only one thing. Either way it could keep you from getting a signal. For starters, is the mast plumb? It must be! Are you using the settings in the menu for that zip? Have you checked the azimuth, skew, and elevation settings on the dish? Are all of the cables properly connected?

BTW, that dish is the older Phase III dish which only receives the sats at 101, 110, and 119.
Its primary alignment is at 110. So peak on a TP on 110.

?my eyes played tricks on me it is a d-12 receiver. The satellite in says (swm1). I beleive I have everything plumb. I seem to be get conflicting setting numbers depending on where I get them from direct tv or dishpointer. azimuth 201-213, tilt 71-78, and elevation 31-36

According to dishpointer it should be 33° elevation, 209° azimuth, and 72° skew. What does the Directv menu say?

The dish you described is not a SWM dish. So you need to go into the sat setup and select the appropriate dish

I think he was referring to the input on the back of the receiver. It's marked swm1.

If your dish at home is an SWM dish, you need to go through satellite setup on the D12 to get it to work. Connect the D12 to the dish. Go to satellite setup. Select "multiswitch" as the multiswitch type (instead of SWM). Then select the dish type (phase III 18x20 oval dish from what you are posting).

then go through the dish alignment procedure.

ok tomorrow I will try 208 33 72 based on direct tv settings 3lnb 18x2o dish. if this doesn't work I am guessing a defective dish. any other ideas?

chip,
Here's the latest
my settings 208 33 72

sat 101

sat 110

Well your dish and LNB are probably OK, but you are way off in alignment. Move the dish about ten degrees to the left, and then slowly scan back looking for 101. You should get signals on most of the 101 transponders. Once you have peaked the 101 signals, check 119. A well-aligned dish should have 101 and 119 signals mostly in the high 90s or even 100. Both 101 and 119 have spotbeams so some transponders will show low or zero signals.

hello: I have a phase 3 , sl3 swm, h23/600, with out power inserter, and no need of b band converter, work perfect for camping/tailgating(slimline too big for this), signals are 70, 80's for 101, and 50, 60'for 99's and 103's
good enough for camping

:welcome to Satelliteguys ELBIO!

The signals for 99s and 103s don't mean much since those are spot beams. What are your levels on 99c and 103ca/cb?

Hello Raoul: I don't remember the numbers for 99c but, for 103's there is one that I cant get any signal at all, but I can watch most of the hd channels including locals , I know that phase 3 is for sd , but it work good if you don't want to carry around those giants slimline dish
My next project is to try a sl5 non-swm on my phase 3 dish to get at least the 119 to watch my favorite sports channels, probably I will fail on this, and I will need a bigger antenna
Any suggestion will be appreciated, thanks

I have a suggestion, skip your idea of the SL5, I don't think there are any Sports Channels on the 119 Sat.

What channels are you looking for ?

Are you sure you have an SL3 SWM? All SWMs need a power inserter.

The following sports channels are on the 119 satellite:

425 Fox Deportes
426 Bein Espanol HD
427 TyC
432 ESPN Deportes HD
456 GolTV
624 Fox Deportes (same as 425)

ELBIO, how many connection ports are there on the lnb?
