SES-1

Daystar is DVB-S QPSK, which is what the Weigel Mux used to be. If that only comes in at 12.2 dB, you probably won't be able to receive DVB-S2 8PSK at all. IF you can re-tweak your dish to crank up the 12.2dB signal on Daystar by an additional 2dB or more, that might be enough to lock 4180 also.
I will do some tweaking today and report back.

Hi Folks,

This is Eugene up here in SEATAC, Washington.

I have a REPORT to share and tell.

Hey Norman881, you're gonna be SHOCK when you
read my report!!!

Try to follow my report.... IF NOT, read it tagin.

I'm able to receive H & I East / West channels, MeTV East,
and Toons channels on SES 1 Satellite with my 10
foot KTI mash satellite BIG DISH. With my GI 650i C-band
receiver that move the big dish to EAST to aim at SES1 satellite.
And slave the GEOSAT PRO HDVR3500 Digital FTA receiver.

( Norman881 knows my setup. He seen my photos )

But WAIT!!! Don't get excited about it.....

The BAD NEWS is.....

2 BAD NEWS......

# 1. With all these channels I found by blind scan are
mostly 5% Quality.

Signal Strength: 68 %

Quality: 5 %

And they're all QPSK which my GEOSAT PRO HDVR3500
digital FTA receiver does picks up QPSK as well.

But the best or the closest clear channel that is also
Quality 5% is the Jewelry channels. They're kind of clear
but so much of break up. But I can hear audio as well.

I was able to blind scan on Jewelry channel HD.

Didn't get H & I and MeTV channels then.

So I decided to elevate the dish lower a bit and
the Declination bolt, also.
The Jewelry channels come in a little bit more clear,
but still 5% Quality, 68 signal strength.

The I blind scan it again.......

Guess what????

I got H & I, MeTV and Toons channels.
But they're all quality 5%.
They're a lot of break up signal quality, but
I can still hear audio.

# 2. I mentioned that I elevated the dish a bit
lower to try to blind scan while on Jewelry channels
and able to receive H & I, MeTV, and Toons channels.
Well come to find out in my "Theory" that these
channels are on........

"LOW Horizon"!!!

And the Jewelry channels
is on both above and low horizon.

I mentioned on my earlier post this past week
that H & I and MeTV channels on SES 1 were
JUST FINE LAST week or 2 weeks ago, until
SES folks screwed it up on the LOW Horizon!!!

I bet the SES folks KNOWS that satellite hobbies,
like most of us, they're tying set it up so that we
cannot get them by low quality signal!!!!

I'm imagining myself yelling at the sky like
"Linus" who was with Charlie Brown. : - ))))

I checked with other satellite before SES 1
satellite.
I checked on SES 3 satellite that has BOUNCE channel.
And that channel is FINE on SES 3!! Don't mess
with that!! Good high quality number and good signal
strength on SES 3 satellite!!!

So that's my report on SES 1 satellite. And this is as
far as I can go!! And it ended up to find out that it's
the SES folk's fault!!! For making these channels to
be less quality signal at 5%!!!!
Remember they were JUST FINE 2 weeks ago from
my experience!!!

IF any of you work closely with SES satellite folks,
please give them my words on it!!! They need to
boost the quality signal above 5%!!!
I'll check it again tomorrow before IF I can
watch STAR TREK on EAST or West on H & I
channels.

Right now I'm heading for bed. It's 2 am PDST now.

I'm tired, I've spent an hour and a half out back with
my big dish after the sun goes down, but it was still
HOT from the HEAT WAVE!!!
It made me STINKS from going back and forth,
in house to look at the satellite signal, and out to
fight with by BIG DISH at it!!! : - ))))

Oh by the way, I used an FM system to hear the
sound on speaker inside the house, while I hear it
with an ear bud while I was adjusting the BIG DISH
elevation and Declination. To make sure I'm NOT
losing satellite signal by hearing. : - ))) That's COOL!!

I'm tired, I've been fighting at SES 1 satellite
with my BIG DISH!! : - ))) And finally got the
channels, but NOT good enough!!

I hope that I clarify my REPORT on SES 1 satellite.
And I hope to hear your response on that.

Good Nigh!!

Hi Lucky53,

Thanks for your message respond.
Mine is a 10 foot KTI mash dish antenna with
a 24 inch "SuperJack" actuator arm.
Co-Rotor II feedhorn with Norsat 8225R for C-band.
I'm gonna take a look at SES 1 sat. again tonight.
As long it's NOT too HOT up here.

I'm here in the upstate SC USA. I have a 10ft mesh dish with Edision Mio 4k plus receiver. I get Daystar at 15.1db and Metv mux at 14.5db with no breakups. Not sure why my readings are so much higher than others with a 10ft dish unless SES1 is that much weaker up north and out west. I have done alot of tweaking to my dish as well. I have the Titanium C138 Red filter LNBF.

Your location is practically the direct boresight aim of the NA beam from Ses 1. So, it's going to be at the higher end of the range:

Hi Folks,

This is Eugene.....

Can hardly wait to give you my REPORT on SES 1 satellite UPDATE
up here in SEATAC, Washington ( South of Seattle nearby SEATAC Airport )

Over this past weekend, Saturday August 10th, I took another shot
to RE-BLIND Scan on SES 1 Satellite.

FIRST I adjusted the 10 foot KTI mash dish antenna lower a bit.

When I BLIND SCAN, I found out it shows more of channels
as they were LABELED "NO NAME" on the GEOSAT PRO
HDVR3500 Digital receiver.

Maybe some of you already know???
And some of you didn't know that couldn't
get SES 1 satellite to come in....

With the ones that labeled "NO NAME".
I found out that I have the following.....

== MeTV East
== MeTV Mountain Time
( That's NEW!! )
== MeTV West
( Hey!! MeTV West is back on the bird like it was before!! )
== MeTV TOONS East
== MeTV TOONS West
( I love these two cartoons channels! )
== H & I East
== H & I West
( I do love H & I channels that shows STAR TREK series )
== Starts channels
==Chatchy Comedy
( Nah )

Most of the channels still are 5 % quality, but
have some breaks up signal.
However it's improving a little bit while focus
on the satellite for a while longer.

I had to NAME each channels, took me an hour
to find out what they really are by the hours of
their TV schedules to compare it.
Especially 3 hours a part from EAST and WEST
channels.

I was able to get Jewelry channels HD, and wasn't
able to get the above channels at the same time.....
When I lower the dish to get the above channels,
the Jewelry channels HD is out of signal.
That's because I believe that the above channels
I blind scanned are on the "LOW Horizon" level
then Jewelry channels HD are on the "ABOVE Horizon".
But most of all the Jewelry channels are still 5 %
quality.

The signal strength on the side is stronger.
I don't recall the percentage of the strength.
My best guess is maybe 50 or 60 % of
signal strength.

That's my LATEST REPORT with my experiment on
SES 1 satellite.

I know my friend, "Norman88" who is 256 miles East
of ME, couldn't get it. Maybe his big dish is lower
and above the grass?? And his pole isn't 6 feet tall
or higher, like mine?????
My pole is either 6 feet or 6 and a half feet tall?? For 22 years now.

I ought to tune in on MeTV Toons everyday or all the time,
because those cartoons do bring back memories when
I was a kid!!!
I didn't know there would be such a channel.
Accept I only know is "Boomerang" channel.

Anyway, in the meantime, you read my REPORT.
And keep me posted on this subject of SES 1 satellite.
I'm sure that they'll might do some changes, again!!!

But I do hate satellite channels that labeled
"NO NAME". And I have to edit on my receiver
by change from NO NAME to the actual name
of the network channel!!!
Besides hours to know which ones is EAST
and WEST channels. 3 hours difference IF I
remembered what was on 3 hours a part.

I hope you all enjoyed reading my latest
REPORT.

Keep me posted on this subject.

Please keep this thread open for
IF any changes on SES 1 Satellite.
Especially channels' quality signal.

Thanks for letting me to ad my report.

Hello Eugene,

My dish is mounted on a pole that is 6 feet 8 inches. I will try scanning 101 W and report back.

I just scanned 101 W. My peaked signal strength is 10.9 db. The only channel that I get is Daystar.

norman881
Norman881,

I can't believe it!!! WHY??? You can't get it there in SPOKANE!!
And I can get it here in SEATAC by SEATAC AIRPORT!!!
I don't understand??? What's the hell????
Missing footprint there????

I have no clue Eugene. I'm less than 5 miles north of the Spokane transmit towers for all of the channels, so I get them OTA with a small indoor antenna. :)

Try it again.

Also, blind scan on SES 3 satellite

Still see BOUNCE TV East.

NO Bounce TV West around.

But NEW ion Eat, ion West.

They labeled those transponder channels.

This is my update on Friday August 30th.

Now I can enjoy more with SES 1 satellite.

I've been watching MeTV Toons every day now!!

MeTV Toons East and West.

And MeTV East, West and especially watching

MeTV Mountain time zone!!!!

You can watch the same TV show on MeTV

Ah, so that's probably my problem. The only one that comes in is 4030. I do have a relitively weak signal 71% 65 quality. That looks like the only transponder that isn't 8PSK. No other transponders come in on that bird. I'm hitting 90+ on other birds. I thought it might be my 45 at first, but when the bird east of SES1 hits 90, I better check other things. Any ideas anyone? I have a 10' paraclipse mesh dish. I upgraded to a GTmedia V9 Pro DVB-S2 reciever.Titanium Satellite C138 single output LNBF with 5G Red 1 bandpass filter. 65db gain.

Hey Doug,

The receiver is NOT your problem. I checked other satellites and they're fine.
It's just that SES 1 has a problem. And that SES Satellite provider have their
own problem with it. So, the receiver is NOT the problem IF other satellites
comes in good!!
