I'm still amazed at the difference in buying power of the dollar today compared to 35 years ago. In 1971, I was making $5.50 an hour. I managed to pay a house payment, raise a family, put gas in my cars, go out to eat, go to the movies, pay my utilities and still had money left over at the end of the week. You tell kids that today, they can't wrap their head around it. :)

Nah, we are just getting older. Remember when your folks told you about buying a FULL pack of gum for $0.02? We all thought they were pulling our legs.

Yeah, I actually remember that and did buy a pack of gum for 5 cents and gasoline for 31 cents a gallon. You could load up on candy and gum for a buck. Coke was 5 cents a bottle and most other single candies were 1 cent. Stuff was cheap, but money was darn hard to get. I mowed a dozen yards and made about $20 a week and thought I was rich.
