Right now I have Dish Network using a Dish 500 (Printed on it is TurboHD) and I'd like to get DirecTV to put their dish on that mount. The mount is a tri-pod on the roof of my home. The install was done in October of 2008.

I was curious if the mount may be used for the DirecTV satellite dish. I'll want to use the best dish for HD that DirecTV has to offer. I have locals and all with one dish now.

I like the roof mount and I really do not want another mount up there. What would be great in a perfect world would be to have a DirecTV installer throw the Dish equipment to the earth and replace it with Direct's equipment. Then I could kill two birds with one stone. I could then drop Dish, send them their equipment and be done with it.

Sorry for the dumb post but these are things I need to get my mind around before I pull the trigger on this change.

Sorry but DISH uses a 1 5/8 mounting mast and Directv uses a 2" od mast for the slimline dishes. Definitely not interchangable, there are adapters made but with the size of the Slimline dish and a roof mounted tripod I wouldn't recommend one.

As boba told you, the D* HD (slimline) dish requires a 2" OD pipe, but if you have a true "tripod" mount on your roof, most likely all that would need to be done, is to change the current 1 5/8 pipe in the tripod to a 2" one, then just put the new D* on it & you're all set. I'd try calling a local D* dealer & talk to them about it first; they would probably know how to do this.

Thanks for the replies. I'd leave this to professionals. No way I'd attempt anything like this myself. I believe that a man has to know his limits and trust people to do their craft.
