Self Install - dish says NO!

I live in a very small rural area. There are no dealers or installers around, about 1 hour dive each way to a bigger area. Dish will not just give me the equipment and let me install it. They can't find an installer either ...lol.

I have Dish now and got it from someone out west and he rebated by $50 and I installed it myself. I have everything I need to do it ... and it is simple.

What to do?

Basically you'll have to purchase the equipment outright if you want a shot at self install.

Just buy the receiver/dish (if you need) from a place like dishstore and then once you have it setup just phone in and activate it.

The reason dish doesn't like self-install especially with lease equipment is if something goes wrong or say you don't get a good signal they don't want you to blame them.

You didn't mentioned what exactly you need to do, upgrade a dish, add a receiver or something else?

I was initially told "No" on a Dish'n It Up upgrade of two VIP612 receivers. So I appealed to the ceo address and voila. A month later, I got my receivers and I did it all myself.

I have always done everything myself. No tech has ever been involved. And I have two leased 612 DVRs, one leased 722 DVR, and one owned 622 DVR being feed through DPP44. When I recently added the two 612s, I had to work through the executive offices. But it is always possible. (I own all dishes, LNBFs, and the DPP44.)

Dish is a bit weird about self installs. When I bought my 622 and a Dish 1000 I installed it my self and then called Dish to activate it. I was told I had to have someone come out to install the equipment. I repeated that everything was already installed and I wanted to activate my receiver. The Rep then told me I wasn't allowed to do that and after a bit more conversation he said he had to get an override code so he could activate my 622 - Really Stupid!

OK ... I will give it a little more push and see if I can get it done.
Thanks!

I self-installed my first 1 dish, 2 receiver system that I had bought. When it was time for an HD upgrade I let Dish send an installer for that, which involved moving one dish and swapping the LNB, adding a second dish, adding a third cable and switch, and the 811 receiver. But I have taken it over again from there and self installed/activated my 622 (owned) and 211 (leased - a swap-out for the 811). At this point I think I can handle any additional upgrades and I'm guessing Dish will continue to "work with me" based on my track record.

One secret I learned: don't waste your time with any non-routine request going through a CSR. Go directly to Tech Support...

so whats the issue now? they wont activate it? or you dont have a receiver yet?

I dont understand the point you are stuck at.

Replacing a 921 with a 722 and having an active 722 and 622, all working, Dish required an "install".
The biggest problem was the installer insisting to replace all the white feedthrus/couplers with blue ones. He just brought the wire thru the square holes to the new blues. I had to go get a box of inserts and replace the crimped white ones with the blues and nuts from new unused white ones.

As reception from the DPP44 was and is fine, this is mostly a exercise in control by the installer, who would not just leave the 722. It also too a lot longer than need be.

thats because if a dish inspector were to randomly inspect the job after the tech had left, and found improper parts like the white barrels, he could get a write-up. plus its the right thing to do, the blue barrels allow for a higher frequency signal to pass through making the system function better.

"this is mostly a exercise in control by the installer"

That's funny!
Read up on "QAS Inspections" and "Chargebacks", then ask yourself: Would I work for free?

The landscape has changed. The days of "throw it in, got it going and get out" are pretty much over. Although I know a couple of local subcractors who still follow this business practice.

major problems

Hello I have a problem my dish was knocked out in a storm.Dish said they can't come out for a few days. Can I line it back up and if so how.Does anybody know where to point I know the southern sky but nothing else.PLEASE HELP.

You should be able to. Look up the instruction manual for the model of Dish you have. It should explain how to align it - it's not too difficult.
