Its possible. One being higher than the other would still answer your basic question however, and while I haven't looked it up,Id wager the typical sec football game brings higher ratings than any competing typical football game from other conferences.

You've missed the question .... someone already has posted that the sec network is better than the BTN and the sec network hasn't even started yet.

Regardless, everyone is making this out to the the greatest thing since sliced bread (since when is sliced bread all that great anyways?) my point all along has been that the BIG games will NOT be on the sec network .

The minor games will be on it, just like the BTN, which it's modeled by ... if it's been model by the BTN they must have found something they liked about it.

If your into the minor games, great, then the conference networks, however, if not then the conference networks aren't so great .

Not sure about that, we don't pay more for BTN in the BTN areas.

I would HOPE that it's the same way with the sec network.
Those outside of the conference area will have to pay for it to view it, from what I understand, un less it's free for awhile while it's new.

I heard several interviews with ESPN big wigs and they have stated yes big games will be on any of the ESPN networks they choose. They will put some big games on the SEC network at least until they have many providers lined up to carry the network.

The way the BTN works, each schools football games are required to have 2 games per year on the conference network.

We will get that game locally on an OTA station. That's the way it works.

If a local station has a contract to show games where a particular school is involved, that station has a contractual obligation to show that game.
In that case the RSN or even ESPN is blacked out.
For example. Last night's Duke v UNC game. Had the station that has that contract to show ACC games decided to pick up that game, the ESPN broadcast would have been blacked out.

again you are talking about 2 different things. the acc basketball games (via the acc network) has nothing to do with the subject


the sec football game at noon eastern that was on syndication and farmed out to various affiliates who wanted to take it does not exist anymore. those games go to the sec network in august
the sec basketball games that are in syndication and farmed out to various affiliates who wanted to take it will no longer exist after this seasons basketball season. those games go to the new sec network next season

here are real examples of the syndication. Again this ended after the football season.

if you see there are areas of "non sec" areas that carried the game. In SEC territory you'll see if it didnt involve "the local team" it was put on smaller affiliates or subchannels.

Are you going to tell me the Big12Ten has better football than the SEC? Isn't football driving all sports revenue at universities across the country? I'd argue the Big12Ten has slightly better basketball, but for football where the ratings are, it's note even close. Does the Big12Ten Network have great production? Absolutely. Does it have great content? No way. I watch PBS more.

I can see those PPV games going away in the SEC and all games not on CBS or ESPN/ABC being on the SECNET along with the old JP/Lincoln/syndicated games. Just go back the last 15 years and see which conference has won the most championships. Many people want to watch these teams. The Big12Ten just has OSU, sometimes Michigan, lately MSU, and who else? A bunch of mediocre programs especially since Nebraska and Penn State are not as good as they once were.

Again, if we get the Big12Ten network, then we should be able to at least get the SEC network, even if it's on the sport's pack for people living outside the Southeast.

The PPV games are gone as of this past year. Those games will most likely be on the SEC Network now

I have a question. If the SEC network is available on those and other stations, why would it not be available in the future?

That channel was never available where I live in the NC Piedmont. In fact, before this was even an issue, I'd never heard of the SEC channel.
Which Saturday 12:30 game are you talking about?
Here's the thing with these niche channels. The producers of the channel are not going to allow it to be put in a higher tier, nor will they permit it to be a pay channel. The reason is simple, not enough buys. The channel would require placement in a tier where many subscribers already are buying that level. This spreads out the cost of the channel. Often to unsuspecting consumers who will never watch the channel but get stuck paying extra for it.
I think we will see providers balking at paying for these specialty sports channels more often because the producers are unrealistic as to the value of the service. Looks like DTV is putting it's foot down on this one.
I would not sweat it. Not much is going to be shown on this channel that is not already available on other channels. Such as football and hoops. It's not the end of the world.

The ESPN broadcast of an ACC game is no longer blacked out with the ACC Network shows the same game on local channels. It has been this way since the start of last season. You can chose to have coherent coverage or suffer with Dick Vitale should you so chose. The current SEC TV (Formerly SEC Network) games early on Saturday will be on the SEC Network next year. SEC TV is ESPN, so the contract will just get absorbed. ACC Network is Raycom so I don't think it would work the same for them.

ESPN is getting a lot more than the PPV games. A HUGE component of the SEC/ESPN deal is digital content (ie WatchESPN and ESPN3). Digital rights is one of the big reasons why there is a delay in carriage agreements.

Grow up man. No one is forcing anything on you. There are a lot of channels and things I don't like. I'm adult enough not to say....crap channel, crap this or that. By the way the only reason you will have an SEC network is because The Big Ten showed everyone how to do it and do it right.

I am not complaining about paying for it. Just saying if they carry Big Ten then Pac12 and SEC should also be. List the channel in the geography they cover and where it's not put it in the Sports Pack. I am more than willing to pay $5 just for the channel as long as it has no blackouts.
