This has happened twice now. First on our HR21-700 and the other night on our R15. On the R15 I purchased and recorded a PPV movie. We watched the first 15min. or so and went to bed. The movie was 1:30 long. When viewing it the next day at the 28min. point the screen goes black and a scale bar shows up with the statement "searching for authorized content". No movie after that. In my purchase history it shows it as a partial recording, and full payment. The exact same thing happened earlier in the year with our HR21-700. I first e-mailed DirecTV and got nowhere. I called last night to tech support and it has been "escalated" up the chain and am now waiting on their phone call back. I'm just wondering if I can get a faster answer from you guy's. The phone line has been hooked up the entire time. Thanks Jackson

If greater than 24 hours, and it's a first run hollywood release, there are now limits on the viewing time. You can download a PPV movie and keep it buffered for months. But as soon as you press play, the clock starts ticking. After 24 hours, the PPV is no longer available.

PS - This is MPAA's doing, not DirecTV.

Neither had been fully viewed yet. They were both reviewed with in 24 hrs. Why could both be partially reviewed before the message? DirecTV still hasn't responded. Jackson

Not sure if this is the case...just a possible theory. So take it with a grain of salt. :) It might just be a hardware problem, though for your sake, I hope it was just this.

The other option is that there was a disruption of some sort that dorked up the recording at that 0:28 point. When I record some shows off OTA and there's a big storm going on, I get the occasional freeze and pixelation and then the show starts back up several minutes ahead of where the last "clean" scene was. The timer bar shows this new timer location relative to it actual place within the total time it was supposed to record. It has been so bad sometimes that I may see 2 minutes of watchable programming and then I am suddenly at the end of the show. So the timer bar is saying that the show is 1:00 long, but it still skips around.

On the Tivo units, it actual shows the total "quality" recording time and so you know before watching a 1-hour show that you will only see 15 minutes. But D* uses a relative timer location method and you won't know until it happens sometimes.

So if that is the case, I would speak to D* about getting a credit for a free PPV to make up for the incomplete recording of the most recent PPV. Good Luck and keep us posted.
