Their CES announcement about the 100+ HD channels was nothing more than a desperate attempt to counter DISH's free HD DVR promotion. They needed to issue something to stop the bleeding...to convince their HD customers to hang in there a little longer because great things are coming. Heard all the empty promises before from D*. That is why I am making the switch to E*...my install is scheduled for this Saturday...can't wait!
I can't help but feel that some at D* feel some relief at the launcher loss. This gives them an excuse. There will likely be delays in these networks getting their HD versions up and running, even though they no doubt have been preparing behind the scenes for this for years. So there won't be 100 national HD channels available by year's end, and D* won't have their new birds up so quick, but won't be blamed for promising the moon.
I was about to type a "not as eloquent" post to the same tune.

That's the part that gets me. IF all the channels listed hit their HD launch target dates there still won't be 100, but anyway; who's to say DISH won't match everyone worth having.
I'll bet D* is counting national PPVs and D* Info\Showcase channels to take it to 100.
I'll be the one laughing when all the D* subs have to pay $4.99 every time they watch the majority of their "100 National HD Channels".
Yes, HD PPVs could be a real money maker. Count 'em as part of the hundred, charge 'em again to actually see 'em. But it would be nice having 100 national HD channels available. I'm sure E* will keep pace, maybe even stay ahead in the count.
Directv is now saying that it will launch HD channels by the end of the YEAR. That is not October. They also say we BELIEVE that it will not stop us from having 100 HD channels. I know it is early but better luck next year.
I wonder if Jappleboy really meant to post this as a Directv thread? Posting it here is kinda like starting a bar fight.
He has to be one of D* "True Believers", no one else would buy the load of crap their PR machine is putting out, all promises and no substance.

D*'s TV commercials just say they'll have the CAPACITY for 100 HD channels. They make no claim the they will actually have that many. Was the CES announcement different? Hell anyone could probably provide capacity for that many now, if they down rezzed the hell out 'em even further and bit starved them even more to provide HD Super Lite! 240x1080i :yikes )
