SD channels viewed through the same connection, on the same TV, with the same settings, as my old 311 make my beautiful plasma look like a bad LCD (soft and grainy). SD actually looked pretty good from my old 311. HD channels look great through the VIP211, but probably make up less than half my TV viewing. Anyone else notice this? Does the VIP211 have a service menu for the SD image output that I might be able to tweak? This truly sucks.

Thanks!

Do you have both the HD and SD (s-video) outputs connected to the TV (I think the 211 has S-video and RCA outputs doesn't it)? You might try varying which input you use instead of just letting the box upscale the SD stuff.

For example, on my TV, SD looks better if I use the S-video input, while HD looks best (of course) using component.

From his other thread, he's already using S-Video. I use S-Video and SD looks pretty good to me. Granted the 311s look a lot better but those are SD receivers so I expect SD to look good.

I have noticed the same thing with my 622s. The picture on my old 508 looks noticeably better on SD channels. My guess is that the internal processing of the SD channels on the 622/211 has some problems.

ARGGGGGGGG!

In all fairness, I think E* made a big improvement with the 211's SD output compared to the 811s. SD on a 811 was just horrible. With any HD receiver you will get a lower quality output on the SD channels.

Strange, I think SD looks a lot better on my 622 than it ever did on the 522 it replaced. Who knows.

Using 2 Hdmi ports...need some info please.
