Hi Guys,

My Parents vacation home has recently been upgraded to an HD DVR receiver and the correct dish (Slimline)--installed by DTV. Each year we take our old second SD receiver to their place (after they have left and taken home their receiver) and hook it up. Of cource I call DTV and tell them about the temp move. In the past it worked fine as they had the old round SD dish. Now that the new dish is there will my SD receiver work with it?? I realize it will not be HD but just interested if my SD receiver will work with the SLIMLINE KA/KU DISH. Any ideas??

Thanks!!

Probably not. If it has a swm lnb with one cable coming from the dish, only if it's a D12 receiver. All other sd receivers aren't swm compatible. If there are four cables from the dish, then you have a swm8 switch which has a legacy port you can connect to.

There is only 1 wire coming from the dish. Our SD receiver is about 5 yr old--the modle number escapes me right now.

If he has 4 lines he probably wouldnt have a SWM8 ;)
The 4 output LNB will work fine with older receivers. It will get only 101

But yeah if its a SWM setup then he would need the D12

That should work fine, but check behind the little door on the front of the receiver for the model number. I wouldn't call DirecTV unless you wanted different locals.

Somehow I read in the original post that there was a swm setup. Duh! There isn't!
