Saw some craigslist deals for some receivers and here are the scenarios:

Pansat 2500 with remote $60

or

Pansat 2300 receiver for $25 without remote (I'll get one from Ebay)

Feel free to jump in with advice.

P.S. The 2300 may have been hacked.

I don't think the 2300 has blind search capabilities, the 2500 does.

Even if the receiver comes with hacked firmware you can always download the factory firmware from PansatUSA. (As long as the receiver is not damaged)

yep the 2300 does not have blind scan

2500 is a nice box...its an upgrade of my 1500 (2500 has ac-3 and svideo)

Just my 2 cents , I think you can do better than $60 , heck $85 for the mercury II w/ Free shipping sounds great , but if you want to economize I suggest you also look at the Megasat YT 6688 , I've seen this receiver NEW for about $50 and I'm sure you can get it cheaper used.

Someone else might want to chime in , some of the STB clones are very good for the dollar value.

If you're not ebay-shy, there's a pile of boxes on sale there today, new and used. I saw some brands starting at about 68bucks new for a traxis 3500, and a few other known names. Plus some that were not so known to me like SpaceStar and Skyview. Lots of used pansats that no longer are 'receiving all signals' lol (pay providers have thrown them a curve this week)

Yea, just came across these "deals" on craigslist. Was looking for a cheapie for grandma so she could watch White Springs and Equity channels.

We all discussed the Satpros 500 on here back around Feb or Mar this year.
I've since seen it on eBay for maybe $50 shipped.
It's quite nice, with a great picture.
Being new, it wouldn't need a replacement remote and should give a decent service life.
If you run across one for less, don't hesitate.

Alternately, you might pass one of your lesser receivers down the food chain, and get that Mercury II Xmas deal for $85 shipped.
Makes a cheap upgrade for yourself.

Or, do what I did and get the Visionsat IV-200.
You'll have a smile on your face the mortician won't be able to wipe off!

Maybe check out the buy/sell part of our forum.
Might find something there.

SatPros 500 has been good to me... :)
