I knew that once the Sox season ended, the s*it would hit the fan:

Schilling blasts Manny

Curt Schilling's latest entry on his blog, 38pitches.com, was very, very interesting. It has been removed from 38pitches.com (unsurprisingly), but the text still comes through on my RSS reader. I have quoted a few relevant excerpts...

No, by saying PLAY I mean exactly that. The issue got to the point where everyone finally took him at his word, there was no choice. A guy refusing to get on a team plane, having to be literally coaxed on, by people with pride and people that love the game, because meeting the obligations of a 20 million dollar contract were not even close to enough to get him going???? If he did not get traded he was going to need "time off" to rest his injured knee, and it got to the point where he made it clear time off could mean the rest of the season.
So it's not 'what could have been', we knew what was to be, and what was to be was that if he did not get a contract extension he was going to take a seat, and in taking that seat he didn't give a rats ass what anyone thought, including the 24 guys that wore the same uniform. So the 'what could have been' in the post season is not the question. The question is would there have been a post season if he had stayed, and that's a question, and a gamble, that I think everyone felt they knew the answer too and in the end a gamble no one was willing to take, and rightly so.
It is demeaning and disrespectful to the guys that did respect their teammates, the game and the fans by busting their asses through broken down hips, sore arms, strained abs and whatever, to grind it out for each other and the fans, their love of the game and anything else you can think of, the organization, to hear people question the hows and whys of this whole thing. That was why I said 'he flipped you all off' because if you heard ANYTHING he said after he left, he did.
But the thing that killed me in the end was this; he never gave a rats ass about any of us that suited up with him, not one iota. He was, and he said repeatedly, about going to the highest bidder and getting as much money as he possibly could, period. If that meant pissing on us in the interim, so be it.
Schilling went on to discuss how the team was disappointed not to make the World Series and glowingly runs through the Sox roster saying that "the Sox are poised to be a force in baseball for the next decade."

Again.....Schilling is such a douche nozzle!! He is no longer in the lime light and has become someone that is NO LONGER relavent in baseball...NO LONGER useful to the Red Sox...NO LONGER the main pitcher on the team, and yet STILL has to run his mouth AFTER Manny is gone. SHOWING AGAIN, that he had NO testicular fortitude to man up and tell him in his face.

...he is nothing but a pu**y dressed as a man....plain and simple.

...go away dude!:eureka

Gee, you think that others aren't thinking the same thing on the team.

Why bash Schilling over this, he pretty much said what most of the team thought anyways.

Schilling may be back or maybe not.
Personally, I hope he comes back full strength and has a great year :)

I bash because instead of the Red Sox let him get away with ALL he did...but they didn't give a rats ass about it because they were winning. The year they trade him AND DON'T MAKE the World Series....suddenly, he is Satan and has been getting away with murder!! Why didn't they nip this crap in the bud from day one??!! WHY didn't someone have the balls and just come out TO HIM IN HIS FACE and confront him with all the supposed bull**** he was doing?!! Because they were f***ing cowards and THEY WERE WINNING! Now, for not making the World Series, they are digging for SOME EXCUSE....SOMETHING or SOMEONE to blame except just saying that they were not good enough to catch the Rays. EVEN when the Rays had their VERY BEST two...TWO players out for an extended period of time....they STILL weren't good enough.

Like I have said before, I am willing to bet one years salary that IF the Red Sox had run away with the division, Manny would have NEVER BEEN traded and the Red Sox would have just let "Manny be Manny".....

I still have troubling fathoming that three pitch, no swing strikeout against Rivera. Ramirez has a good enough eye to know they were going to be strikes, and its not like you can guess the wrong pitch from Rivera.

That is fine and dandy....but the Red Sox made their bed....and now it's not their fault "Manny was being Manny"....

...This is WHY I am starting to hate the Red Sox and they have become the "evil empire lite".....

And some people say Philly fans are nasty!

Salsadancer 7: the last time Schilling blasted Manny their was the same response that he couldn't say it to his face. I replied then and now that they came to blows in the clubhouse over "Manny being Manny" -my contact couldn't tell me who won. Personnally, I don't think the Sox would've come as close as they did if Manny was still on the team. I never liked the guy-thought he was a phony! Paul

I'm a Mets fan and I'm terrified that they might make a run at this nutjob.... Awful defense, a cancer waiting to destroy team chemistry, and a bad precedent setter that will most likely come out better for having thumbed his nose at the owners and his fellow players...

Best case scenario? He has to take a pay cut from that $20 million he turned his nose up at....

The problem is that the Yankees and Mets might be desperate enough to risk it. I hope not, since the Mets would be better served throwing any available money at Sabathia or K. Rod.... The Yankees might hesitate seeing what he did to the Red Sox, I don't know....

He was popular in LA, but they can't afford that kind of money.... Even if they do, I have a feeling the OLD Manny will come back once his big paycheck is assured for a few more years....

My DREAM scenario would be for all of these team GMs to tell their respective interviewers on sports radio that they have no interest in a player that would sabotage their team and intentionally fail to give more than 40% effort and infuriate the fans... He then winds up taking a pay cut to play for LA..... It's not likely, but I wish it were.....

Manny should have been charged with fraud or not living up to his contract.

There are way too many cases where he just didn't show up (Whether physically or more likely mentally) to many games forcing a trade.

He was paid alot of money to play baseball, which he really wasn't doing in the end.

Now LA Dodgers live with him. He cleaned out his locker there, would not talk about next year with the Dodgers and said, QUOTE: "Gas is up in price, and so am I" and walked out.

Manny being Manny my ass.

If it wasn't for Baseball, he would be cutting sugar cane in the Dominican Republic.

I agree, the Mets should stay as far away from Schilling as they possibly can...

Except that the price of gas is plunging..... mainly due to a huge drop in demand....

Hopefully, the same will be true about him.....

Forget the bet, (how would we ever decide the winner on that one?), BUT, if Manny didn't "quit" on his team, maybe they would have ran away with the division, and they wouldn't have had any reason to trade Manny. Baseball can forgive a lot. Quitting on your team, (for whatever reason he had), is not one of them. But the truth is, he did quit. Funny how they started winning after he was traded. Coincidence? I think not. As for Schilling, don't kill the messenger.

And seeing that I HAVE worked in sports media and I know what goes on in locker rooms...50% of the information is either a lie or an exagerration. IF something like that where it came to blows between the two stars...it would have came out and SOMEONE more than likely would have been traded. Almost 95% of all these so-called 'coming to blows' story are pushing matches or one guy screaming to another. That is probably the reason why your source could not tell you who won.

Paul...according to Red Sox fans(because they ALL seem to have been in the locker room to see it), this is something he has been doing for years..and chalked it up to "Manny being Manny". I have NO ISSUES with Red Sox fans thinking he was a quitting a**hole...BUT, management LET THAT CANCER grow and they went out of their way to hide as much as they can from the media...so now that they didn't get as far as everyone expected and was beat out by a team that sucked and was in last place last year....Mannygate is now all the rage.

How much of the 50% of the lies and exaggeration that come from the clubhouse come from the media? I really thought the media's percentage of misinformation was a lot higher. Sorry, just having fun with your wars of words. Whether or not you like Curt, he did play pretty hard every time he took the field. I will now butt out of your highbrow mudslinging.

Thats not going to happen because the ugly word "Collusion " would come into the vocabulary again.
