Of interest is this Dish Network News...

Video, Integrated Services - Total SBC | DISH Network subscribers
increased by 97,000 in the quarter to reach 323,000 in service - all
added since the company began offering the integrated service in March
of 2004. In the first quarter of 2005, SBC plans to begin construction
of an advanced, IP-based network to deliver next-generation,
integrated all-digital TV, super-high-speed broadband and IP voice
services. The company expects the network will reach 18 million
households by the end of 2007.

Sounds like SBC will be competition for old Charlie in just 2 years. HELL, it looks like they will surpase Dish by 8 million subs if they really get a video service by then.

Just because this new network will reach 18 million households doesn't mean all 18 million will subscribe. This is not an uncommon practice of business to announce the number of current or added customers and then announce future plans that talk about availability to a larger number of customers. In the last two years how many households has Dish made local channels available to, and how many have subscribed?

Don't forget that even though SBC has plenty of cities in its coverage area, it also has a lot of Rural customers too. They'll likely continue to get their SBC video services via DBS for a long time beyond 2007.

Verizon is partnered up with DirectTV. So that will be their dancing partner during this transitional time.

DVR and HD Receiver on same TV... worth it?
