satmex5 and local

i been reading a bit.correct me if i'm wrong. i need a big dish if i want satmex5.if i want to get local channels like nbc,fox,cbs,pbs i would need a medium size dish? is the azbox the best box for this? also which sattelite is best for local channels?

Big dish, recommend 8 ft* prime focus for C band, 3700 to 4200 Mhz..
Ku band, 11700 to 12200 Mhz, recommend a 36 inch* offset style dish.

There is not any one satellite better than another, for anything really, except PBS.

Is the aZbox best? Not from what I've read. It will decode 4.2.2 video, onboard. A very rare type of mpeg. That's all it has over the rest.
If the receiver does DVB-S and S-2, mpeg2 and h264, you're golden. Take a look at the microHD from SatelliteAV (site sponsor) designed and supported right here.

Welcome Carlos! I see you are in Merced, California. I think for local channels, you should get a really good outdoor OTA antenna, not a satellite dish. That'll get you the affiliates you requested out of Fresno, and maybe Modesto and perhaps the bay area! There are great things on C-band satellite on both Satmex 5 and Satmex 6 out of Mexico, if you're interested. There are a few network feeds on Ku and C band, but you shouldn't have any problem getting your local Fresno stations with a simple outdoor antenna. As FaT Air stated, take a look at either The List at the top of the page, mpeg central, or Lyngsat (some of the stuff is outdated as channels come and go in FTA satellite, but you'll get an idea).

highly not recommended, and other than for the physics reason:

- Many signals are migrating to DVB-S2 and usually with very low SR's, so you will need every bit of signal and lack of nearby satellite interference that a 10' or larger dish can give you. I get many more DVB-S2 signals on my 10' dish that I can't get on my 7' dish due to signal strength or nearby satellite interference that creeps into the spectrum space of the DVB-S2 carrier.

- Things are going to be changing really soon in the Mexican slots so a 6' dish that works well for the easier to receive DVB-S signals today may not work well in a few months with the greater chance of nearby satellite interference coming into play.

Well if u have a chance for a 10ft then do so.. but for me a 6ft has been enough on Satmex. Tv Azteca had the channels in the clear and those channels were DVB-S2 and signal was like 70% with my 6ft dish.

dood you dont need a 10ft for satmex.. that 8ft dish will be excellent for that plus its solid not mesh. Go get it its free!!!!!!!!!!!!

Should be able to set two dual output LNBFs to receive both satellites from a fixed mount (not motorized) and feed two (or more) microHD receivers simultaneously.

Ok cool. I was able to check what channels I get from Satmex5 and i get most of the unencrypted ones as fallows:

All this with a 6ft dish. Of course I am located in Los Angeles so that can be an advantage. You been more in Northern Cali might not get as much as I can.

Now, if you were thinking in getting Televisa channels from satmex5 well u wont be able to due to been DCII and encrypted.
