SatelliteGuys.US DishNetwork Uplink Activity Discussion - Week Ending 01/26/2008

Key question is that a bit rate monitor is needed to see when USA/SciFi appear to be running programming and not a constant bit rate slate.

I thought it was that channel as well. I used to watch on C-Band last year. I am surprised that they would try to launch HD version when they are having trouble getting SD viewers :)

Dudley

Well, it's showing as active right? Can anybody see what's on it?

My guess is Harry Potter Order of Phoenix since all of the below channels point to the same video stream.

539 HDPPV
5903 DRMT7
5906 DRM10
9465 MAVHD
9466 NBAHD
9467 HDPPV
9615 BTV

Is anyone seriously expecting any HD before Feb 1? The current promotions expire Jan 31, the new packages are announced for Feb 1, etc.

If I was going to pump up the "new and exciting" HD package choices, I would plan for any HD announcements to coincide. Seems like common sense to me.

Also, the drought of HD channels is due to end soon if any of the rumored exclusivity deals with DirecTV are true (I believe there is some truth in that rumor somewhere).

Finally, If I read Digi's reports correctly, Dish has just about finished the satellite shuffle to free bandwidth. This can't possibly be a coincidence with new HD packages coming on line and additional channels in the wings.

Should be an interesting year as they play catch up with DirecTV and get their new birds in orbit.

PS: I find it amusing that people have been in such an uproar over a few months of non-news regarding updates. How long did the DirecTV people have to wait? Truth is, we've become spoiled.

Best post of any thread in a long time! :up

I've only be with Dish about 7 months. I have not been spoiled. I went with the company that claimed to be the HD leader with a commitment to remaining the leader--- sales speach given. I specifically moved to Dish for the HD and because I believed this was THE provider if you want the best in HD. Shortly after I join, Direct (who I was just with) surpasses them with the channels that I most care about. Direct supassed with superior quality as well. I was also LIED to by the retailer and told that Local channels were available in HD. How dish STILL claims to be the leader is mind-boggling.

I agree - the timing was rather unfortunate for you. That does not change the facts of the history between the two companies. If we put this in terms of a war, Dish has been victorious on many campaigns for some time. Recently, however, DirecTV has been whipping Dish in the HD battle (in terms of apparent channel count at least).

I find Dish's claims of HD leadership no more preposterous than DirecTV's: Many of their channels are upconverted SD (The Weather Channel HD, for example). I get essentially the same result by pushing my SD version of the weather channel out to my projector in 720p. In neither case do we have HD (let alone HD-lite), but we do enjoy a nice picture.

The final winner of the HD battle will be determined by who delivers the most real HD programming. I believe that will happen this year as BOTH companies get their fleet of satellites in place to deliver the HD that the programming providers will eventually offer. (And despite some people's disdain for the VOOM channels, they could be the difference maker in the final channel count.)

Until that time, both Dish and DirecTV will continue to look like a couple of silly guys trying to determine who has the biggest, umm most, umm best, umm - you get the picture! :D

It's hard to blame your "plight" on your apparent lack of research. As a DirecTV customer you probably should have been aware of their satellite launch that allowed them to do what their marketing efforts said they would, expand their HD offerings.

Companies will bend the truth to outright lie to get your business, no matter what they're selling. It's up to you to look at the facts to determine who should get your business. You have no one to blame but yourself!!
