SatelliteGuys First Look - Dish 1000 Satellite Dish

why didn't they just make one lnb instead of having a duel and a single?
The pictures show a DPP Twin and the one being held is a DP Dual. There should be no conflict between them. I'm wondering why they didn't use a DP Single since the DPP Twin only needs 1 feed from the 129 LNB.

They printed the old dish logo on the dish. I wonder when they will change it? Or how many of these dishes are sitting in a warehouse waiting to be used up before they change the Logo

They use DP duals on the outrigger LNBs on SuperDishes as well. I suppose it is cheaper in the long run just to have consistant equipment -- there really isn't much difference between a DP dual and a DP single anyways. Internally the same workings, the only difference is that the output is split. By making them all dual and no singles they don't have to run a second production line for singles.

Content is to be determined -- your guess is as good as mine and possibly worse than mine if you are not looking at the situation logically. :D My best guess is locals, and I have supported that guess in past threads.

Aiming would be similar to aiming a Dish300 at just 119. The skew would have to be set ... I'd use the skew given for a SuperDish121 as a start. That's another receiver upgrade that is needed (besides re-adding 129 to the menus). If this is going to be a commonly used dish then they need pointing directions for the Dish1000. "Checking the manual" was OK when 129 was a FSS dish used only in one area - for a general release dish they need more open aiming.

I currently have 6 of my 13 locals and the VOOM channels coming off of 61.5. I have no idea how 129 and the Dish 1000 are going to impact my life, so I won't worry until there is something to worry about. Anyway, great work and great pics Satguys!

Glad to bring them to you first, I notice another site is raving they have pictures today, but once again they are a day late and a dollar short. (And you need a magnifying glass to see any detail on the photos)

More to come. :D

We have some surprises planned, Stay tuned! :D :D :D

Dish 1000 Who Made BY??

Scott
Can we get a side shot of the dish 1000 box as well as a shot of the bottom of the box, so we can get a clue who manufactures the dish 1000?

If the cardboard box came from Longview Fibre from Cedar Rapids Iowa, it is probably winegard, If it is from an outfit from North Carolina it is made by Andrew Corporation. ( you will find this info on the bottom of the box)

Scott, over in DBSTalk they have verified that their 129 LNBF is getting no signal as well.

Funny how they linked us for detailed photos.

I say the first receivers to get 129 updates will tell us what 129 will be used for primarily.

If the 811/921/942 get updates only, expect MPEG4 HD channels to go there.
If all the standard rcvrs get updates, expect locals to be moved.

I have seen the 129 slot for a good while on some of the receivers. It was originally for the Pittsburg or Philladelphia DMA. I dont know why they chose to have 129 just for Pittsburg/Philly. Maybe it was a test for FSS for 105/121 or that it didn't make any difference since if one market wouldnt have to use 129 then another would. Maybe they had to do what they could to hurry up and launch that market to prevent losing several customers and that was the only way to get that market up at the time.

The answer to that is that they were using Starband's satellite for the "must carry" Philadelphia locals. They were renting space, from my understanding, they only had programming on one transponder, T17?, I 'm not sure why. I heard that it was a part of the deal when Starband and Dish Network hooked up.

I did not know that it was FSS....Are you sure that it was FSS? Oh well, they moved the must carries to 61.5, in late 2003, and made a lot of subs upset b/c Philadelphia had been able to get all the locals from one dish, then they had to go to 2. It really made those upset who did not have line of sight for 61.5.

I never saw the dish, but the signal was always very strong for the people I spoke with, that's why I didn't think that it was FSS.

You're welcome. But that's not really surprising when you consider the dish was sent to the operator of a popular web forum who is also a computer guru, perennial early adopter, and gadgeteer - not that there's anything wrong with that. Someone else may have had just a cell phone camera at his disposal. If it had been sent to me we'd be waiting a couple more days for me to go to the store to pick up the PhotoCD I would have ordered when I dropped of a roll of film to be developed. Good thing I have no connections! Now we're just waiting for Scott to buy a laser measure so we can find out how big it really is. Anyway, the EKB is hosted by the other site but the content is independent. When the two boards seem to have equal information (copy & paste postings for instance), I use that hosting as the tie-breaker for crediting the source. Otherwise the information is where it is.

A couple Q's!

Does the Dish 1000 allow you to get a stronger signal off 110/119 compared to the Dish 500?

What kinda $$ are they looking at? Dishstore has been getting all my satellite $ where possible, no reason to stop now :)
