Hi,

I am trying to setup my new equipment for FTA. I am confused though about the fact that I have a signal strength of about 70% and a fluctuating quality between 30-90%. But when I scan for channels I do not get anyhting. By the way, I still get the same strength and quality when I have the LNB inside the house not pointing to anything!!!

So, is this normal? How do I know when the strength and quality are really from a satellite and that I am going get programs.

Here is a list of the equipment I have:

- Patriot 90 cm VSAT dish
- Invacom Universal Single LNB 0.3dB C120 model SNF-031
- Digiwave DG7000 receiver

Please help.

Hello and Welcome to the SatelliteGuys.US FTA MPEG-2 Forum!

Getting signal strength indoors is normal, signal strength means very little at this point. Its all about signal quality.
For a universal LNBF make sure your L.O. (in antenna setup screen) is set to....

09750-10600

Let us know what satellite you are going for, keep scanning away if you feel you are close to a satellite.

Thank you, Pete. This makes me feel a little better since I had some suspecion that my equipment was faulty.

I have been trying to scan T-5. I got the Alt/Az data for it, but it seems that the process is more difficult than I thought. At least for Ku band satellites.

Also, what should the quality be on my recevier to indicate that I have locked on to the satellite? Right now it bounces between 0% an 95% but mostly around 43%!

Thank you for your help.

Anything above 45 will give you a picture, but I get around 60-70% quality on most channels. To find IA-5 I use the below and watch for quality, moving the dish a few millimeters at a time until you peak out the quality. Its always worth doing a scan if you feel you are close to a satellite then you can work out where you are from there.

Pars TV

12088 MHz(H) SR : 20.000 Msps

Well, between the snow storms I finally got a window to work on my project. It is still very difficult to find any channels and I am not sure the compass and eyeballing the dish angle will work.

Do you have any recommendations on any reasonable devices that can make the process of finding the satellite a little easier than the guessing I have been doing?

Also, could recommend an easier satellite to find than IA5 ?

Thanks a lot.

TF

The best tool you can get is your TV and the signal quality meter. Signal strength means nothing, its only about signal quality!!

I would try for IA-6 its in the same ball park at (93w)

This channel is LIVE 24/7

ABSAT NYC 1

DFeq: 12051 MHz(V) SR : 3.978 Msps

If you have no luck try another area of the sky, say the G10R satellite (123w)

The Tube (24/7)

DFreq : 11718MHz (V) SR : 27.691 Msps

Give us your zip code (or one close by) and we can give you a list of all the satellite angles for your area if you need them!

Thank you Pete. I am at Lat. 41.7026 Long. -71.4477 Zip code 02886.

Have you used Invacom LNBs? I got model SNF-031 and I am not sure how to identify it to my Digiwave DG7000 receiver. My options are normal, universal, or LNBF.

I also have this strange symptom. I just got a 100' coax cable. As soon as I connected it between the receiver and the LNB. As soon as I did, the receiver does not display any picture (menus)!!! When I unplug the cable, the receive seems fine!!! Have you seen this strange symptom before?

Thank you..

TF

I would check both ends of the (RG6) coax to make sure there is no short, that should not happen. All Invacom LNBF are Universal.
