Greetings everyone, it's been an exciting day for us today as we have passed our 30,000 member milestone! We have been growing by over 150 new members a day since we updated our software!

Because of the software upgrade we are having a few issues (mainly with user avatars) I have been unstucted by vBulletin support to upgrade to vBulletin 3.52 which I will be doing tommorow (the upgrade should only take a few moments)

But my question to you the members is as follows, we have recently been having trouble with our current ISP, and we had a long discussion with our supporting pub members about the issues. And we have decided to move to a new ISP and a new server.

The new server is a POWERHOUSE!

The specs for it are as follows:

Dual CPU - Dual Core Operon 265 CPUS
8GB DDR Registered ECC Ram
4x36 GB SCSI / Hardware Raid 10
Linux - CentOS (x86_64)

We have been running our sister site DishRetailer off it for a week now, this server is FAST.

The question to you the members is should we move to the new server tommorow or should we wait until next Saturday instead?

The move may take a few hours so we would be down for a few hours.

Please give me your thoughts. :)

ummm take a break and relax I say do it next sat. as long as it dosent cost extra money to wait, you need a break scott, enjoy your family for the weekend instead of working!@

The kids are away tommorow which makes it a good time.

Another factor to think about is the availability of LER who is available tommorow but not next weekend.

Looks like tommorow is winning anyways. :D

Actually the move should not take that long. :)

Family is important ....but most of all it should be done at a time that you want. All of us will miss Satelliteguys for the time it is down.....but it must be done. I say ...do it when it would be best for you.

Speaking as a former sysadmin, do the move when it works out best for the guy who ends up fixing it when (not if) things break. Tomorrow.

<soprano's voice> you talking 'bout me?</soprano's voice>

wel scott if the kids are going to be away and ler is here, then I would do it tommorow, and def. free up some time for next weekend, you really have been busting your (jim romes voice) AZZZ lately, so you need a break, a vactation if you will....anywho let us know as vinny said we will miss it, but its all up to you!

i voted for next saturday. just incase something goes wrong, we won't have to scamble a quick fix for the holiday party.

If something goes wrong we just dont cut te DNS over to the new server. :)

Do it tomorrow. Get'r Done! Get it over with. Duplicate the information to the new server. If something does not go right you still have this one to fall back on.

I voted your call. But if it was me I'd wait until next weekend since you have the big holiday party coming up Monday and do you really want to stress a new setup with only two days under your belt on the new config?

Is there such a thing in this software as "readonly mode" so users could at least still see what's here, but not make new posts, whilst you are copying stuff from old to new? I do a lot of migrations and I always try to plan for zero downtime if at all possible. But whatever you decide to do is fine with me.
