Last week before the North East’er rip through New Jersey, I went down to the bay to try and find Atlantic Bird 1 at 12.5º West. I found 30º West with no problem (nice salsa music and salsa dance contest on Cuba Vision.) I slide the dish over, and at the azimuth for Atlantic Bird 1, I did a blind scan and came up with a strong transponder that was id as Skylogic, a satellite Internet provider. The transponder was 11593/H/3504 and it scanned in 4 radio stations that had no audio. They were, AB1eu, AB1sa, IP-Roaming and PCR.

I could not find out any info at Lyngsat, or Skylogic’s website.

Has anyone ever seen an Internet transponder with a low symbol rate that scanned in as radio channels with labels?

The pictures of the find are attached; receiver is Fortec Dynamic, 500 Dish with a Universal Chaparral LNB.

I have attempted to scan a DN sat (72.7 or 77) with a Coolsat 5K and with a Fortec Dynamic and the channels there came in as radio channels when they were actually TV channels, so not the same scenario as you are reporting.

If the signal is MPEG4 most receivers (that handle MPEG2 only) will log those channels as radio

I've picked up the same thing on my Fortec Dynamic here in Ohio.

I thought I tried it before but just tried the AzBox and it shows the strong
signal but will not scan in anything. The Fortec Dynamic scans in exactly
the same as you do (mikelib).

Tnx Radar, I have the same 2 STB’s the Dynamic log’s data channel in the radio section as channel 2500 and/or 4400. I get the same problem on the Coolsat 5K when scanning 77W. I did managed to scan in one TV station and it is encrypted.

The Van was a retirement present to me, I was going to use it travel a lot, but it gets limited use. I use it to go and see the kids and grandkids down in Charlotte, NC.

Iceberg: Tnx for the info, I do know that the transponder was ID as Sky logic and they do use Atlantic Bird 1 & 2 for satellite Internet service. If I was locked on to the correct satellite I should of received the North America spot beam that is listed in Lyngsat one of these days I am going to invest in a spectrum analyzer.

PedroGarcia: I find it interesting to take a small dish down by the bay to try to receive signal from the Atlantic Satellites. I have already received Atlantic Bird 2 at 8º west; it has one transponder spot beamed toward the east coast of North America. It has two Arabic Stations on it. Check the post:

Hindu55: Kudos to you that has to be about 5º elevation for you, that sat is at 15º elevation for me and I have to go down by the bay as I have no LOS at home for that elevation. Thanks for confirming that you can receive that transponder.

4.7 deg to be exact. It's the farthest east I can get. Caught a video feed on AB 1
yesterday late afternoon. That was a rarity.

Your right that is a rarity, when I go sat hunting some satellites only have feeds listed they are the hardest to find, you hope you’re lucky enough to catch a feed. Can you pass along the transponder info? I will put it in my receiver, if the weather gets a little warmer next week I would like to give AB 1 & 2 a try again.

Try this sat NSS 7at 22º West, around 8 to 9 pm EST:
12035/H/2893 NNL-70168
12040/H/2893 NSL-70095
My best satellite DX was off of this sat during the summer, I locked in Reuters WNS on 12002/V/4000 it is encrypted, but the audio was on saying Reuters World News Service. If you check Lyngsat you see that the transponder is listed as Caribbean & Andean spot beam. The signal quality was not strong but it was enough to scan in to the Fortec Dynamic.

10-04 1Adam12 - I checked out the ku side of that sat, the Australia beam looks doable, hum! a trip to west coast to do sat hunting sounds good. I'm almost tempted to do it.

Your right about the NSS 7, one day I caught them playing a video they made that pinpointed the area, another time they left a camera on in a office with had a map on the wall and a medallion that was easily recognizable. Talk about loose lips…

They are Lebanon based channels, very liberal and modern western in its programming. .

Thanks for the info I always wonder who would be watching those channels so they are Middle Eastern. I guessed North Africa, I was wrong.

I meet a Lebanon refugee; he was making pizza in North NJ. He had a real interesting story on why he left Lebanon.
