I have a couple of questions. I am new in this field and would highly appreciate any help possible.

I already subscribe to DishNetwork's local and international packages, so I have two dishes on the roof. Do I need a bigger dish in order to view Pakistani channels over FTA? If I need a bigger size, what size is the optimum size? My main goal for opening this thread is to collect the information and reach an objective of buying the equipment, so if anyone can help me through, that would be great.

I understand about half of the stuff regarding FTA so I will surf around more on this board and pick up different threads, topics and posts as well.

Thank you much.

minimum 36 inches is what i would recommend....if you have the room and the money then go for a 39 inch or even 1.2m....you need a standard linear LNB also....

Thank you Mikey for the response.

Could you point out as to which (brand?) dish will fit my needs? Are there many dishes out there that are 36/39 or bigger, or simply any dish with that size will do?

Are the channels you are interested in even available FTA? Do you have channel names and know what satellite they are located on?

If they are only available on the pay services you will not be able to get them FTA no matter what equipment you have.

Phlatwound, there appears to be a few servers on 97W that I am looking to add. Thanks for helping out.

How can you tell if they are below the horizon? Sorry for asking.

You are welcome, glad to help.

The short answer is, if you are in the U.S.A., 97W is probably above the horizon and visible from your location (unless you have trees, mountains, buildings, etc. blocking your view).

This site will give you aiming info, just enter your address or GPS coordinates.

I am getting 91W based on my location.

Also, using this link above in Phlatwound's post, I am getting the satellites that are available with the appropriate dish size. I guess the next question would be, do I pick the appropriate dish size now? Or something else?
I don't think I've seen any Pakistani channels that are available on the Western Hemisphere
Do you mean no Pakistani channels are available with FTA?

I am looking for some of these listed in this link:

Free TV from Pakistan - LyngSat

Do you mean no Pakistani channels are available with FTA?

not on this side of the Atlantic, all those channels in that list are on EASTERN satellites not reachable over here, we are only able to get WESTERN satellites

is "Jus Punjabi" Pakistani? cause now that I checked the lineup I am able to get that might be of interest to you, it's at AMC1 @ 103W

This server is not a Pakistani server. So installing a separate dish and an FTA receiver will do me no good because all those channels are not reachable. Is this correct? What about 97W that is reachable? Or is my thinking wrong?
