Hi guys. I have a bit of a problem.

Yesterday after rebooting a hung Tivo at home it complained about not receiving all of the satellite guide data. I checked the satellite signals and while I'm getting great signal strength for 101 A, and 119 B, I had no signal for 110 C on satellite in 1 but some signal on satellite in 2.

Now today, I have no signal at all on either satellite in 1 or 2. for all 3 transponders, 8, 10, and 12 on satellite 110 C.

We've had some fairly bad weather in Dallas over the past few weeks. Could this have somehow damaged the antenna? If so why would only 110 drop off?

Any ideas? I don't want to shell out a bunch of money to have some one come out scale the roof to investigate this problem.

Moisture could have creeped into your LNB assembly or maybe your multiswitch (if you have an outboard one). If you see condensation on the white plastic cap of the LNB, you'll know what happened.

It is also possible that the LNB has bit the big one.

You should test your receiver at a fellow subscriber's house to rule out a receiver problem. Maybe have them bring a receiver and plug it into your system.

I know for sure its not the receiver. I have two HD Tivos, both connected to the same antenna. The multi-switch is in the attic and I doubt thats the problem.

What gets me is that 2 satellite have 97 - 99 signal strength, but C has zero. Nothing, nada, zip.

Ah for the heck of it I logged into DirecTV's web site to see if there was any way to get them to come out and fix this stuff for free if I did the usual renewal for 2 year gig with them. Without having to make a phone call and in the space of around 3 minutes I have the problem solved:

Equipment:

Description Unit Price Quantity Price
DIRECTV® HD Receiver
$0.00 1 $0.00
5-LNB Multi-Satellite Dish
$0.00 1 $0.00
Handling and Delivery Fee
$0.00 1 $0.00
Installation Included
$0.00 1 $0.00
Relocate My Existing Receiver What's This?
$0.00 Yes $0.00
Add an Off-Air HD Antenna
$49.00 1 $49.00
Subtotal: $49.00
Tax: $4.04
Total: $53.04

I added the OTA antenna in the hopes that I can take down the giant unsightly UHF super 8 bowtie that is on the front corner now that looks pretty unsightly. $53.04 total isn't too bad for everything above.

Your going to regret taking the bowtie down.
The D* antenna is probably not going to help, depending on what type they send you, if it's the clip on, skip it.
